I live in a very hot region of the country on a wooded lot. It felt like I was spending as much time fighting algae as I was enjoying our pool. I can’t recall how I stumbled on this, but I ordered it and it sat on my counter for about a week. Then my salt cell chlorine generator died. Luckily, the pool was nice and clear when the cell failed. I dropped this baby into the filter basket (along with a booster pack as recommended for a pool that size) somewhat as a Hail Mary just hopeful that it along with some added chlorine would avert a mess of algae. Well, I only THOUGHT my pool water was clear, because I woke up the next morning to the most beautiful, crystal clear water imaginable — and lines of dead algae on the bottom. This was about 6 weeks ago. I’ve added about 3 gallons of liquid chlorine total in our 40,000 gallon pool since then - probably could’ve gotten away with even less, but we’ve had a ton of rain and yard debris from redoing landscaping. That’s all. It’s still perfect. I don’t recall how it works, but it does. We also noticed today that the water doesn’t burn our eyes at all. It still has salt in it, but just seems perfect. No red or burning eyes. Water feels better than ever, too. I’ve planned to replace the salt water chlorine generator, but at over $1500 plus installation, and with a clear pool, I haven’t been convinced to go that route again. What's the difference between the two other than the plastic cage? What about the booster granules, more expensive than the booster tab. Anyone know what's up with the booster granules?** A: We use Poolrx in about 50 of our accounts. I only replace the blue unit if the customer loses it. Each spring we add a booster pack of minerals. No problems even with 9 year old blue units. **Q: How important is it to clean the filter first? I have a newer pool (Less than 6monthd old) but already have an algae problem.** A: Very important to use after cleaning your filter. it goes in your pump basket and will go through your filter system. It helps fight algae and helps to lower your chlorine and acid consumption as well. If you have to clean your filter because it's dirty then you will lower the life of the product. Hope that helps. **Q: I have a 23,000 gallon pool. How many boosters do i need? Would 1 booster be enough?** A: Each booster works for 20K gallons. Too much, and it can affect your pump system. Just use one, and then watch your water. You will know when it is time to add another, as the water loses its sheen and some growth tries to get a foothold. I have a 50K gallon pool, and use only one of these at a time, as the water tells me it is needed. **Q: Do I pour this right in to the basket or do I use the old blue basket and try to put it inside the basket?** A: Well, not totally sure, but I put mine directly into the basket and not in the old plastic blue one. Forecasting 101 today and it’s the 8th of the month! Which brings me to this product. We use it every year and have never had a major algae attack on the pool. Because the season continues I ordered this product to pep up the one we put in in May. I ran the pump during the heat of the day per the instructions for 8 hours. The next morning the pool is sparkling like I had added clarifier. Although we have a weekly pool service we keep our pool immaculate and it makes going in the water a lot more pleasant. Our pool water gets into the 90’s during the summer months so becomes an easy target for algae of all sorts. This product really does the job it says it does and it could not be easier to use.
