It's not loud for a commercial unit. It's also not the strongest blower I've ever seen. It's a good compromise when you need to be slamming against the wall. Otherwise I would probably choose a different unit.

Does this unit need to be hard wired or can a traditional plug be used

The design from the manufacturer is definitely for hard wiring, but it is possible to add a plug to it, and use this with a GFI circuit outlet. I would only recommend this option if you are using this in a restroom NOT open to the general public.
