Penguin Says "Please" (Hello Genius)

My three year old daughter picked this book out herself and it’s now one that she wants reread often. She also loves “Penguin Misses Mom.”

Great, short story to help kids learn to say please. Love the last few pages with the socks. We are penguin fans so my little one and I love this book and read it a few times in a row when we first got it.

This is a very simple book that is excellent for encouraging your toddler to say "please." There really isn't much of a story-- at first Penguin is demanding things without saying please, then his mom tells him he must say please, then he repeats his requests saying please. Nonetheless, my daughter LOVES this book and is happy to read it many times in one sitting. I have been working on teaching her to sign "please" and after signing it with her throughout several readings, now she knows the sign! I'll definitely be purchasing more books from this series.

The simple summary of this book is that penguin is being told that he needs to say "please" when he wants something. We also have the Bears Says Thank You and I give some credit to that book for helping my 16 month old start saying "Thank You" unprompted and in the right context. It helped reinforce what her dad and I say to her and it quickly became her favorite book. This one has not topped her list of favorites yet, but I think that over time it will become a favorite.

While this book hasn't yet gotten my toddler (who has been signing for a while but just started speaking) to actually say or sign please, now she smiles and nods when I ask, instead of becoming infuriated. I don't know what the heck she thought "please" meant, but she would go bananas whenever I'd encourage her to say it. Since she really loves the illustrations (especially when the penguin is upside-down), I'm hoping she'll come around to actually *saying* please pretty soon, but since this has eliminated the mini "please"-based tantrums, I'm calling it a win. Very sturdy book, bright colors, sweet illustrations, small enough to pop in the diaper bag, short enough to read in a minute or two if the kid wants several encores.

My three year old said he liked the pages. His favorite was, “I have something to drink, please?” He loves all books by Dahl

This is a cute book about manners. It’s very short and basically has the penguin rephrasing what were initially his demands into a polite way of asking after his mom corrected him. The illustrations are very nice and vibrant, which my toddlers enjoy. Would definitely recommend.

My toddler has me read this to her several times a day. It’s really helped teach her to say please. She knew how with sign language but wasn’t consistent and now she will say “peas” unprompted for things she wants. Going to get the other books in the series next!

This series has the best board books I have ever seen. Clear, crisp, colorful pages with wonderful shine. However the story lines could be more elaboratr and imaginative. None the less, penguin certainly shows children how to use the word 'please' when they need something.

Dopo un mese e 10 giorni di attesa il libro è arrivato ma non certo in buone condizioni. Lo tengo solo per necessità ma sono delusa.

Simple, fun way to teach manners at a very young age. Highly recommend!
