DaToo Aquarium Hang On Filter Small Fish Tank Hanging Filter Power Waterfall Filtration System

Truth be told I was concerned about getting this HOB filter for my 2.5 gallon shrimp tank due to some critical points other reviewers made. So you know where I'm coming from, I do have a larger 30 Gal general tank and I've typically had bad experiences with HOB tanks that have the pump outside the of the tank. I tend to do better with either "self-priming" HOBs or Internal filters. However, for a 2.5 Gallon tank, internals take up too much space for the aquascaping I wanted to do and the only "self-prime" HOB I could think of that would fit was no longer produced (Marina S5). So I had no choice but to go with this HOB that had the motor on the outside. And it's actually really good. So my thoughts as to why I really like this one: 1. This filter is small and slim, but has ENOUGH space for me to customize the filter media (see pictures). 2. Super quiet...in fact my air pump is louder than it. The main feature that helps is that there is a rotating piece you can turn to put some space between the tank and the motor. That's the key there. I had rattles when it was up against the aquarium, but now that I turned that disk and created space, you don't hear anything but the trickle of water (when I turn off my air pump). 3. It comes with a suitably sized pre-filter that covers the intake pipe. My shrimp have safely climbed on to eat some of the food on it and combed off. It is coarse, but for a pre-filter I prefer that as it sufficiently catches large debris without greatly diminishing the water suction. I mean, I want most of the filtering to be done in the chamber anyways. 4. Easy to take apart and clean out sludge 5. The suction isn't too strong for my tank community. No one is fighting the current like they initially were when I tried an internal filter system. 6. It's size is easy to manage and work with while still being big enough to do a proper job. Things I learned to be aware of: 1. One other reviewer mentioned that this pump had sucked out water out of the tank and spilled it outside the tank. THIS CAN BE TRUE. It actually happened to me also, BUT I learned that there is an easy fix and it hasn't repeated that problem ever since. Simply put, I initially over stocked the chamber with media so it ended up displacing the water to much that it spilled out of the filter. I stripped it down (see the picture) and it works like a charm. No spillage...not even a little water dripping out of the top. And the biggest culprit was that I had a sponge that was way too dense in there. 2. When using an HOB this small (especially for a planted aquarium that uses soil), it will be necessary to clean the filter once a week. This also helps to prevent overflow. It's the nature of the beast. 3. The noise issue can be real as another reviewer noted...but just as I stated, the rotator disk they have at the bottom of the motor makes the rattles disappear. Again, the key is putting a gap between the tank and the motor component of the HOB. So all in all, I am pleased with this purchase and will be going for this filter again if I ever require one for another nano tank.

I recently set up my first shrimp tank. It's a small cylindrical bowl/vase that can hold between 1-1.5 gallons of water. I originally planned on going filterless but after seeing that a really small filter like this existed, I thought I'd might as well try it. I was a bit hesitant after seeing some reviews say that it buzzed/hummed loudly. The tank is right next to my bed so I definitely would not tolerate any kind of noticeable noise coming from it if I were to use it. Thankfully, like other reviewers noted, as long as you rotate the circular piece at the bottom of the filter to keep it in the right position, the filter is actually as close to silent as you could hope. I literally have to put my ear right next to it to hear anything from it (and I have pretty good hearing). When I first set up the tank, with just the plants and water, biofilm developed on top of the water. It took a few hours of running the filter to clear the biofilm from the surface of the water and now it's crystal clear! After just a couple of days, I can see gunk accumulating on the pre-filter so it's definitely doing its job! Since I have such a small tank, I was also concerned about the intake pipe being too long. Thankfully, you don't have to use the connecting pipe if you don't need it so it's also the perfect length for an aquarium that's less than 5 inches deep. You can also easily adjust the water flow and I have it turned all the way down. It creates a VERY gentle flow that doesn't disturb the floating plants I also have in the tank. I've only been using it for a couple days at this point so I can't speak to the longevity of the product but so far I'm very impressed with the filter, especially considering it only cost $8. I also bought a few extra pre-filters and plan to add some ceramic rings to the filter as well.

This filter actually has great suction and flow for the tiny size that it is, but boy this thing is LOUD. I tried putting a sponge, a towel, some foam, filter floss, you name it between the motor and the glass, and the vibrating noise still rang out through the night. The top of the filter also cannot be placed on it as it acts as a sound amplifier via echo and makes it even louder. I had bought 2 to place on a 10g to help cycle them and then move to smaller tanks, but had to return both because of the noise. My sponge filters are more quiet, even with the bubbling. The only time I couldn’t hear them as much was when my refrigerator was kicking in, and its an old and loud refrigerator if that gives you hints at decibels produced by these things. The filter media included in the package as well is basically useless, has about 7-9 pieces of carbon and a little bit of floss, definitely replace that with other media if you decide to try them. Was hoping for a hit, but maybe I’m just not as tolerant of vibrating noise than others are. If you can stand a constant vibrating noise (and not even really a hum, but just loud vibrating) these will work wonders for you!

For what it is, it does it's job at a very good price. It's not quiet though. You will hear a hum.

Company says "Buy with confidence! Just do it!" NOPE. DO NOT. Although the description says it is for 3 - 10 gallon aquariums, this does not fit over the black plastic lip of a standard tank. Additionally the tube is too short-there should be an extension, or it should be longer in case you don't have the water right up to the top. Also there was no foam included with the tube as shown in the description. Unfortunately I missed the return window by a few days due to a family medical emergency so I didn't have a chance to try it out in time. Make sure you try it out right away. I contacted the company regarding the warranty figuring I might be able to return it but they said it is only for defective items. I think the wrong size is a defect when advertised as compatible and it wasn't, but I suppose they didn't agree with me. Additionally, they blamed the Amazon warehouse for the missing part and offered me a very generous .05 cents credit. They told me if I didn't like this filter, I can buy a different one from them. I don't know what they are smoking, but it's not going to help their business, that's for sure! I would never do business with this company again; they obviously don't care about their customers.

This little filter is pretty effective really. I slipped a correct sized piece of some filter sponge media I cut to size inside it instead of the thing that came with it. It worked fine on my 5 gallon tank. It works just fine. I've had DaToo products before and they've been just fine for me and a less expensive brand. It's just a simple filter and I've used it about 3 months so far and it's still working fine. Not too loud...it's very small so probably wouldn't go higher than a 5 gallon tank with it

i never review products, usually i really don't care to share my opinion. but this is the single most quietest filter of my life. i kept thinking it broke and shut off. it makes ZERO noise. not even water sounds.nothing comes from this thing it's AMAZING

This is a tiny filter as u can see fits in my palms, great for nano tanks, u can adjust the water flow too. I have it for my beta tank (about 1.2 gallons) but I will put him in a 3 gallon tank along with this filter. it is quite noisy, but I put a piece of paper towel between the filter and the glass and noise is 99% gone. Great quality so far for a tiny filter!

I use this filter for my small shrimp tank and it works fine. The build quality is good and the noise level is acceptable. I cleaned the filter with tap water so I don’t need to replace the filter very often. If you are looking for a low budget filter, you should consider this one.

This tiny filter works great with my son's 1.5 gallon tank. It has more suction power than the old tetra one that came with the tank. The current on the lowest setting is perfect for his betta. It is a little noisier than the last filter though. So far, I'm satisfied, I just need to look for filters that will fit the chamber. The filter cartridge has an odd shape.
