## Questions & Answers

**Q: It sounds like [un-]Surecom is confused; if this unit can only recieve and transmit in one direction (i.e. simplex), why do they call it "Duplex"?**
A: The SR-628 has two modes.  One mode passes RX audio from one radio to the second TX radio in one direction only to create a one way link.  The other mode passes RX audio from each radio to the other to create a bidirectional crossband repeater.

**Q: Either i get this to work or its going back..how do i program each radio?**
A: First, you need two radios (#1 and #2)
Next, you need to choose two legal radio frequencies (F1 & F2)
Program Radio #1 to Transmit on F1 and Receive on F2
Program Radio #2 to Transmit on F2 and Receive on F1
Now, when one radio receives a call it transmits the call on the other radio at the same time using the SR-628 that is connected to both radios.

**Q: can this be used with one radio? Radio shack's used to work like this.**
A: This is intended for use by 2 radios.  It will not work with one.  You may be thinking of simplex repeater they sell that records a message and plays it back.  I own one of both and am familiar with them and their operation.  If you search simplex repeater you shoiuld find it.

**Q: What is the battery life like and what voltage is required for charging?  I'd like to use a solar panel for charging.**
A: I think this would work, I don't think you'd need to use the external battery charger or load terminals since the repeater has an internal battery - just hook the solar panel to the charge controller, plug the repeater into the charge controllers USB port.

It works well, but to get it to work correctly, you will need to configure it. Here's what I did: 1. Someone on youtube posted a video where his SR-xxx repeater would only work if he was talking into his radio. I had the same issue. I noticed the SQL setting (code ##55) in the documentation and set the squelch level on the repeater as low as it will go (1). Out of the box, it's set at 5. This fixed the problem and the repeater now works perfectly. 2. Obviously, change the password. 3. I changed the repeater mode (code ##612). For my purpose (ammo can repeater), I could have gotten by with the SR-328, but for the couple of extra $$, it's not bad to have the cross-band capability should the zombie apocalypse ever come to pass. It seems like a pretty decent unit. Simple and straight forward. It does what it's supposed to do. It doesn't have too many lights that burn power needlessly, yet it has enough to communicate the necessary codes back to the user. Time in the ammo can will tell.
