Is this noisy at all. I've heard some of them have a buzzing sound.

Yes it has a quiet rattle/buzzing sound. Mine didn't get this until approximately 1 month of use. I use mine in my bedroom, so I'm going to be replacing it. But shouldn't bother you much if it's in a noiser area of the house.

Can this be used with a crockpot?

If it's a crockpot that has a physical on-off switch, meaning it has a button that stays on even if you unplug the crockpot, then yes. If you have a digital variety that requires you to turn the power on when it's plugged in and doesn't stay on if you unplugged your machine, then no. I suppose you could use the timer even for a digital crockpot if you started it immediately and set the timer to shut it off at a certain time. It will shut a digitally operated crockpot off; it just won't allow you to delay cooking. I hope that makes sense!

Works great but makes a soft winding noise

Works really well. Very easy to program. The only issue is that it makes a soft noise constantly while plugged in. It is like a soft winding noise which i assume is the internal timer. So it isn’t ideal for quiet areas as the sounds stands out.

Exactly what I needed it for

I purchased this to automatically turn on/off my indoor christmas lights when I'm not home. It was easy to set up and works well. When it switches on/off there is a somewhat loud click but it's not a big deal -- just saying it's not silent when it switches. The toggle on button is ok but why not a toggle off as well? Overall, I'm very happy with this timer.
