Well worth it. Put a wet cloth underneath it.
8 have no complaints about this sharpening stone. I have damaged an axe beyond the use k this stone and had to file it beforehand, but got it back to cutting shape with this thing's help. I got my hatchet to where it shaves better than any knife I've ever owned on this. Nothing but praise for it.

The Axe Sharpener
I have a nerdy collection of fancy Japanese sharpening stones for my pocket and kitchen knives. But for axes and hatchets? This is what you want. Slap a few drops of mineral oil on it and start swirling. I only need a minute or two once or twice a month on the hatchet to keep my grilling wood chopped and ready for the grill.

Well looky here
So this is actually a round stone (4" diameter and about 1" thick) with a course and a fine side. As far as the grit goes the fine is finer than the course and the course is courser than the fine, really that's all I could say. It nice enough to put a nice edge on an ax but I wouldn't use it on my knife. I typically use this for hand sharpening concave ground wood tools. Its pretty handy in the shop but for the woods I use a Lansky puck which is a little bit courser but a hell of a lot cheaper. speaking of which the list price on this sure went up. Its not worth more than $20. I think you can buy them in bulk for under $10.

Made like they used to make them
This is a great stone that doesnโt fall apart from use like so many others do.

Great product, terrible packaging.
This is a great sharpening stone, but it ships in a terrible paper box. Like, not even cardboard. Naturally, mine got damaged during shipping. A little piece broke off. It still works well though.
