Most Cisco switches use an RJ-45 jack for serial console connectivity, so you would need an adapter to use it. 3 for rxd, 2 for txd and 5 for gnd With this in mind, you may consider using a NULL adapter (male/female) to change rxd and txd pins, and/or Gender adapter (male/male). I keep both of these adapters at hand, in case of a signal mis-match. This is a very good product. I've used it with and without the adapters, very successfully. I especially like the quality and length of the cord,10ft, braided.
