A gifted healerโs powerful guidance on how therapy can help us revitalize our emotional landscape in an increasingly stressful world โA wise and compassionate book.โ โ Washington Post Mary Pipher's groundbreaking investigation of America's โgirl-poisoning culture,โ Reviving Ophelia , established its author as one of the nation's foremost authorities on family issues. In Letters to a Young Therapist , Pipher shares what she has learned in thirty years of clinical practice helping warring families, alienated adolescents, and harried professionals restore peace and beauty to their lives. Through an exhilarating mix of storytelling and sharp-eyed observation, Pipher reveals her refreshingly inventive approach to therapyโfiercely optimistic, free of dogma or psychobabble, and laced with generous warmth and practical common sense. Whether she's recommending daily swims for a sluggish teenager, encouraging a timid husband to become bolder, or simply bearing witness to a bereaved parent's sorrow, Pipher's compassion and insight shine from every page. Letters to a Young Therapist is a powerfully engaging guide to living a healthy life. Review: A must read for - I bought one for a new therapist and after looking at it, I bought one for myself. Despite the fact that I have been a psychologist for over 40 years. It was beneficial and I enjoyed other individuals perspectives Review: Great book! - Book came brand new and was a gift! Gift for all new therapists!
As a therapist, I was given this book when I first began practicing, and I now give it to all of my interns when they graduate. Invaluable advice and wisdom!

Comforting and easy to digest read for new therapists
A colleague recommended this book after she received it as a gift. The authorโs approach was encouraging and normalized the wide range of feelings we feel as therapists. I read it as I was about to begin a new role and it helped me feel more self assured as I transitioned.

Boring therapist letters about herself
Disappointing! Therapist chatter about her mundane daily life written in the form of letters to a younger colleague in supervision. Can't avoid the question why she wrote it all up - Laura, the addressee, must be pitied!

too superficial
to me, slushy, over sentimental and polly- annish.

Great book - Must for any psychotherapist
LTaYT is a very accessibly written book and highlights some of the major underlying issues that a psychotherapist encounters in the context of working with clients. In my opinion this is also a great read for clients as well. The writing is simple, or should I say it doesn't get any simpler. An invaluable resource for a practicing psychotherapist as well as for the client. Highly recommended.
