I found that 4 layers worked best to repair a really bad break back in the quick, and with the 4 layers there is no pattern, the brush on resin fills in well. I did smooth down the surface between layers 2 & 3 and that made the next two layers smooth. So far it's performing beautifully and you can't tell that my nail has anything on it protecting it. It isn't thick or unnatural looking. I'm really quite impressed by these now that I figured out how to make them work for me. I hope that helps. **Q: Are they strong enough to add length to the nail? How long do they last? Also can they be cut to cover just the tip of nail?** A: I don't wear my nails very long, but I have added a small amount of length when a nail broke very short so it at least was close to matching my other nails. I used a brush on gel glue, did 2 layers of silk, with 2 layers of glue between and 3 layers on top. No tip or builder of any kind. Just the fiber and glue. 3 days in and so far so good. **Q: are they pre cut strips?** A: Some of them are pre-cut and some are not. Watch the ones you buy because their are two kinds, I like the pre-cut. My nails are thin and I can’t keep them from ripping so this works really well. I’ve been able to keep my nails a bit longer and even put nail polish on them. I’m so excited to be able to wear nail polish again. lol. My husband plays the guitar every day and will often get catches in his nails, which affects his ability to play, I ordered this for him to try and it works really great for him. We did a 2.5 hour gig recently and they held up all the way through that.
