Q: Will it make a clean cut on a 2x4?

Yes. I use mine all the time and cut 2x4 and 2x6.

Q: Will it work with older Ni-MH 18V Rioby battery? I have an older driver with charger and 2 batteries but they are not Lithium.

YES! The Ryobi line of tools (18 volt, also called +One) are all compatible with the newer AND older Ryobi 18 volt batteries! The older ones typically were heavier, thicker, and less powerful batteries, compared to the newer LI-Batteries (lithium ion). And though the older batteries will work, you'll be surprised at how much more powerful and longer lasting even the smallest new Ryobi batteries are!

Q: Will this work with a One+ 18v battery?

Yes, quite well actually . All my ryobi chordless tools run off of them . Cut all the lumber for my remote deer shack without ever recharging during a full day
