The travel version is also great if you have tight muscles in your neck as you can put it between your neck and the wall and press against it to release the muscle. I tried this after finding that it worked for sciatica by once again placing it between the wall and my waist and moving down. Yes I had to look up the suboccipital neck muscles as they have been acting up every now and then and there is very little I can do once the pain starts and I get suboccipital neck muscles headaches. Then I remember having this high density foam roller that I was thinking of returning. I placed it under my neck while lying down on the bed so the bed cushions the hard foam. I found that I could roll my neck around on the foam creating a deep massage or just hold my neck at a certain position for the high density foam roller to penetrate my neck muscles. I spent about ten minutes giving my neck a deep massage using just the weight of my head. headache gone. After finding one major use for the foam roller, I tried inserting the foam roller behind my "Fellows Professional Series Back Support" to give it a higher arch and that did the trick. The arch was just right to support my back. Now that I found a purpose for the foam roller it has become a priceless tool for fighting pain in my old age.
