That said I looked it up and the bar soap was Introduced, 1879; 141 years ago and is unchanged since then. That long ago I doubt it was tested on anything or anyone and I cannot imagine they are doing any testing now (yup, still cleans?!?) on this product. **Q: Is ivory soap made with lye?** A: The quick & easy answer, no soap can't be made w/o lye. To make soap it requires at least a strong alkaline base/lye + a fatty acid/vegtable oil or animal fats. What takes place when mixing these ingredients is called the saponification process, a chemical reaction between an acid and a base to form a salt/soap.I have used Ivory soap for more than 50 yrs.
