as I love the design and I think it is more effective ...
I have an APPLE magic mouse and I have to go back to this one for the ergonomic support. When I use the Magic Mouse when doing a lot of editing, scrolling (I'm a writer/editor), I find my hand gets tired and cramped. Not with this mouse. So, I'll use the Magic Mouse for awhile, as I love the design and I think it is more effective for swiping, better control, but if I need to do a lot of clicking and scrolling this is a much better mouse as it is more comfortable.

Poor wheel design
I think they really botched the design of this one.I've had so many top-quality mice by Microsoft in the past that I'd no longer even bothered to comparison-shop when buying mice. I just figured, if it's Microsoft, it has to be good. This mouse shattered that illusion.I use the mouse wheel a lot. Clicking the wheel to smooth-scroll a web page, or to open a link in an new window, are things I do many, many times a day. The wheel is the most important part of the mouse for me. Roll it, click it, it's got to feel right. Well, this mouse has two things seriously wrong with the wheel.1) It takes about five pounds of force to click the wheel - far higher than any mouse I've ever used. Either that's either a serious design flaw, or I have a defective unit.2) There's no tactile feedback, no "hills and valleys", when you roll the wheel. I loved the old Microsoft mice - your finger knew the wheel was settled into a valley when you clicked it, and it wouldn't unexpectely scroll the document as you clicked the wheel in the valley position. The Microsoft mice would scroll the document only as the wheel rolled over the top of a hill, never in a valley. (I'd come to loathe Logitech mice, because their wheels would register a scroll at unpredictable points, sometimes right in the valley.) Unfortunately, this new Microsoft mouse gives your finger no idea at all where it is - there are neither hills nor valleys. As you're gathering up that five pounds of force to click the wheel, the tiniest rotation of the wheel might scroll the document before it registers the click. So instead of middle-clicking that link you were aiming for, you've just scrolled it out of the way!I won't even discuss the locations of the Back / Forward buttons...

I will keep using my old mouse
I own the Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer ( M03-00001 ) and It has provided me great service for many years. I recieved this newer version as a gift, but im sorry to say I will stick to my old one.First thing I didn't like was its size. It was small and narrow compared with the old one; it was lighter too so it didn't had a solid feeling to it.As for the wheel, it does what its suposed to, and the tilt feature is a good idea. Its smooth movement feels good when using a web browser, but when gaming I missed the precission that the old wheel provided.Worst of all is the software, intellipoint 5.0 is a great step...back! When assingning funtions to the buttons it comes short in versatility compared with the 4.0 version. I just could't assingn de ESC key to any button as I did with my old mouse.Battery life is supposed to be better in the new model but I didn't had the chance to try it since i replaced it with my old mouse the very next day I tried the new one.I will keep my old timer untill it breaks, but I surely will have to run out of options before I buy this one.

Micrsoft vs Logtech
Ok, I admit I'm a mouse freak. Thats understandable because I use this instrument as a webmaster all day long. I use a variety of applications from Dreamweaver and Photoshop to Log Analyzers and the usual office apps. I want a precise response to my movements because by the end of my day I'm tired - extra movement is a pain. The short: I use the Microsoft wireless intellimouse explorer M03-00041 at home where I have occasional use, I use the Logitech MX 700 wireless at work where I need the most precise control. Does that tell you anything? The MX 700 is by far a better mouse - period. Mind you, I'm not throwing away the Microsoft because while it is less precise it does get the job done and I don't mind useing it part time at home but the Logitech is the workhorse for me.

Great mouse but not so great wireless
I have had 2 of these mice and really like them. They are comfortable and take lots of abuse/use. My first one was used so much that the paint was wearing off the left click button! I gave it to my younger sister and she is still using it (it's over 5 years old!) and it still works great.I bought a second one because I got a great deal on it and it coordinated with my other computer hardware...I know, I know...My only really issue with it is the wireless receiver. It's really bulky (about the size of the mouse itself) and apparently it can't be placed more than about a foot away from the mouse and still work. Not a big deal if you are only interested in the wireless because you don't like the constant tugging of a cord on the mouse. It may be a problem if you want wireless to reduce desktop clutter.Battery life in my experience has been good - and this is using the mouse 8-ish hours 5 days a week. I typically need to replace after about 6 months.

Great mouse, long cord
Mouse is great. I was very surprised by the long cord that goes with the transmission receiver. Okay for desktop, not convenient for travel because of the cord.
