Also it’s missing one calibration solution Review: I was using a cheap refractometer that I bought on desertcart but it was giving me funny readings and seemed to need calibrating almost every time I used it. To save myself worry, I decided to invest in this salinity pen. Calibration is super easy and checking tank salinity is as simple as dunking the pen in the tank and turning it on. I have a squeezy bottle of RO that I keep handy for rinsing probes etc, which makes it very easy to give the pen a quick rinse before putting away. Inaccurate compared to calibrated refractometer.** A: Yes, mine is always off -.002 compared to refractometers. All devices calibrated. Talk to Hanna support and was told it won’t match a refractometer lol. I like it because it’s fast and easy, if I want my water at 1.026, I just make sure the Hanna reads 1.023 I guess others haven’t had this problem but I do, or the others don’t know their salt mix is high **Q: Can this be used to measure salinity of saltwater fish tank aquarium? Thanks** A: Yes it can. Salinity and temperature. Does a great job of both. **Q: What is the factory margin of error?** A: I don't know what the "factory" would say their margin of error is, but it's not uncommon for people to check this against a calibrated refractometer and find that it reads 0.002 low. In my saltwater tank, when my refractometer says 1.025, this checker will read 1.023. It's very handy and easy to use, plus confirms my tank temperature, so I use it often, realizing it won't read the same as my refractometer. I don't know or care which one is actually correct, the tank is fine at whatever level this actually is. **Q: Is this accurate when mixing salt and setting your salinity for water change. Iv heard can be off a little when hadn't been mixed that long.** A: You still want to wait for suspended salt to dissolve, salt goes though a chemical reaction while it’s mixing with water and during that reaction it’s harmful to any aquatic life in contact. So wait till it’s fully dissolved, example if I put 1 cup of my mix in 2 gallons of water mix it up and than test while salt isn’t dissolved I’ll get a reading of 17PPT, if I wait 10min while the power head stirs it up longer as it dissolves at 75f the salinity reading changes to close to 35PPT ether 1-2 ppt over depending kn how much salt I added. Ie how much unser a cup or slightly over a cup.
