That's when I would stop the machine and call it done. It usually would happen with a small batch of ice cream in about 30 minutes or so. A good solid well built machine. Is this normal?** A: I just looked at mine and there is a slight bulge just right of center on the front - hadn't noticed it. Doesn't seem dented or anything - maybe just a little bulge to accommodate the cooling compressor. FYI - I have made almost 50 quarts of ice cream with no problems what-so-ever. You only need to put in about 3 cups of mix as the volume expands as it mixes and freezes. It will NOT freeze solid. When it gets stiff and barely turns, you need to shut it off - scrape the dasher and bannister into another container - I use quart size cardboard containers - and put in your freezer to finish the freezing process. **Q: Does it have a cooling compressor so I dont have to freeze the container?** A: The unit contains a compressor that freezes the mixture and does not require to freeze the bowl prior to use. Have made about 10 batches of various flavors and all come out excellent with the recipe book provided with the product. Way better than store bought and we can control sugar. Makes great ice cream with honey. Simple to use and ice cream within 60 minutes. It's softer than store bought at first, but firms up in freezer so that its very hard. I bought some stainless steel 50 ounce containers with air tight lids to go along with this and they make the ice cream hard faster within about 4 hours rather than overnight with regular containers.
