1999 GMC Safari front seat floor mount nuts
I had a hard time figuring out what kind of nuts/thread was in use on my 99 GMC Safari van's front seat floor mounting studs. A local auto parts store named like a wine producing area in California sold me some bog-standard (no flange) hex nuts that were the right M12 size, but somehow they gave me the wrong thread pitch (1.5mm, medium thread). So they didn't fit. The original nuts were corroded quite a bit, probably from the carpet padding being saturated with water for an unknown length of time. But I had to hang onto them because I couldn't find a replacement. Anyway, the thread pitch on the seat mount studs turned out to be the coarse metric thread pitch (1.75mm), and the original nuts had smooth integral flanges, and I'm pretty sure they are the type of lock nut that were squeezed at the top so that they got bent out of shape into a triangle that is "too tight" on three sides, and resist loosening through that inherent friction at the top of the nut. Pretty similar in function to these lock nuts with the blue nylon ring at the top. You can thread them on by hand in either case, then ratchet them the rest of the way down. I got the M12x1.75 size of these smooth flange nylon lock nuts and they are an excellent replacement for the corroded originals, which all still looked terrible even after a thorough wire brushing and soaking in vinegar for a while. Most of the flanged nuts I found here had toothed "grabber" flanges, but I wanted a smooth flange just like the original nuts. These are those. Works great. Originals and new nuts in this size both required an 18mm socket, which annoyingly did not come with my new 3/8 drive metric socket set (it unhelpfully had 17mm, 19mm, and a 21mm spark plug socket), so I had to buy an 18mm deep socket separately. Deep because the mounting studs on the front are fairly long. Side note, I picked up one of those adapt-a-socket gimmicks with all the pins in the socket. It's maximum physical size is 19mm (3/4), so it might have worked on the 18mm nuts if I had one at the time, but some of the original nuts basically required a breaker bar to get loose, so that might have broken the gimmick socket. Hard to say. Also the spring action of the pins means you really need to jam the socket down on the nut to get purchase on the nut, especially when you're basically pushing in almost all the pins. Might be usable in an emergency, but I wouldn't want to be using it all the time. Price seems OK for a fairly unusual type of flanged, stainless lock nut in this size. I only needed 8, and now I have 2 spares in case I drop one and lose it.

Need full dimensions to help while working on projects.
Well manufactured. Full dimensions including width and length of mounting plate and hole size would help immensely for future buyers.

NOT BAD
This stainless steel should weather well but stinks at conducting electricity. With the smooth flange, the nuts rely on the nylon rings for their locking features. That means these ain't so good in hot use, so keep away from serious heat. But you knew that, right?
