"Caplets" are fairly easy to cut while small round pills cut less evenly. My suggestions are to try it and make sure the pill splitter is on a firm surface. Good luck! **Q: Is the surface hard plastic or rubberized?** A: It's hard plastic **Q: Lately have these been opaque or solid in apperance?** A: Mine was an opaque orange. Would have preferred the solid blue. **Q: will it cut soft pills like ic clonazepam odt?** A: I can't say about an individual pill but I use it for thicker, harder supplements and a prescription pill which is smaller and softer. It does a pretty good job on both BUT I found that after making sure of careful positioning of the pill, you have to give a hard, quick whack on the lid. This gives a better result than if you push slowly which might cause some crumbling. This splitter is better than a few others I bought recently. I would practice on vitamins or such until you get the hang of it.
