It be like a sail or parachute and could be rip completely off your roof, failure on the Lag Screws holding it to the roof more than the brackets failing. Depend on how strong the wind. **Q: How are these supposed to store flat if the tilting support beams dont match holes when everything is seated flat?** A: Best way to store these FLAT would be to remove ONE of the bolts holding the support leg and either bolt all three pieces together on one end (remove bolt on other) or remove support bar entirely. I suggest the first as that way all the hardware is kept together. These supports are designed more for adjustment to sun angle, not as simple adjustment to FLAT fortravel. Can be done, just two more steps...Bolts are hand knobs so no real hardware for installation / adjustment (however may want wrench handy in case wing nut turns. **Q: What gauge is the metal?** A: I'm not sure what gauge this bracket is but it is heavier than the factory z-brackets that came with my solar panel. I also was able to ungrade my mounting from 4 brackets per panel to 6.
