Helix - Plastic Locking Compass and Protractor - 2 Piece Set - Geometry, Drafting & Drawing

I needed a basic compass that would lock and draw well-formed circles. After purchasing a couple that didn't lock and thus were useless, I ordered this, and it was just what I needed. Great circles of different sizes. I also liked that I could substitute a thin marker for the pencil. I've used it several times and it didn't break. For the money, a great basic compass.

My son needed another compass for highschool. I got him a more expensive brand last year and it broke. After spending over an hour online, reading a bunch of mixed reviews on many different brands. I decided on the cheaper option for this year. However, I was hesitant at first to order this brand. Again, just because of some of the reviews. But I'm glad we went ahead with it. My son and I tried it out. It works well. Especially for the inexpensive price we paid. It arrived quick, whole and not broken. Definitely no complaints here.

I like that you can lock it so that I can draw perfect circles or semi-circles. Easy to use

I received the helix locking compass and protractor AS PICTURED. I like it. The metal tip is hidden until you slide it out for use. When the compass is closed it retracts back into place so you don't poke yourself with it (it is sharp). I gave 4 stars because the pencil holder is cracked. It still works and still holds the pencil in place. I am happy with the purchase overall. Bought for drawing/mandalas.

Exactly as pictured in the description. Used to make a circular label out of light cardboard. Was perfect.

Before ordering this compass, I asked 'Rufus' if the compass would hold a Sharpie, as I needed to draw some circles on plastic. 'Rufus' assured me a Sharpie would fit into the compass. Well, it does not. Now I have lost several days, have to go through the return process and start searching again for a compass that will hold a Sharpie. As far as this tool is concerned, it is a fairly flimsy feeling plastic. It might last years or days. Impossible to know. So if your child needs a compass that holds a pencil, or that will work for you, this may well be just fine. Didn't fit my needs, and I was misled by the AI entity who is supposed to have these answers.

Yay! A compass that works!

Just what I was looking for...a compass with a measuring wheel so that you can draw the same sized circle over and over again with precision. I draw mandalas and it's the first time I've used a compass where the ends of my circle actually meet!!!! The retractable nib is a nice addition as well. It would be better if it were made out of something other than plastic as I wonder how long it will last before it breaks. Then again, it doesn't feel like something you might find in a dollar store, so it may be just fine...only time will tell. For now...I am quite pleased.
