This Memoir 44 expansion is significant to me, both because of what it brings to the game (I've reviewed the core and expansions here on Amazon before), and the fact that this was the last expansion I bought prior to my gaming partner of almost 40 years, Bill, passing on: our favorite game since its release, with a flight expansion (he flew in the Korean Conflict) he would have really enjoyed. This is the second flight expansion introduced for the game (the first was Air Pack), but is by far the better of the two. In the box you get 16 miniatures, a ton of cards and markers, a rulebook to cover the expansion, and a scenario booklet with 21 new scenarios to play. The rules in this expansion are a lot easier to work with than the previous Air Pack rules, which I never liked, and it should not take veteran gamers much time to get used to the new mechanics. A couple of play-throughs will do the trick. What would have been better is if the rulebook was better organized and edited, alas looking a bit like a translation into English with questionable grammar and layout. Still, it is what it is. As for the scenarios, they involve the air factors in various ways, and they are all interesting. I've been through all of the scenarios now, and while some are more interesting than others, there's some standouts. Of course, a lot depends on which side of the board you are on, whether you're defensive or offensive minded, and what the scenario represents. I usually play each scenario from both sides of the board before moving on. Apart from some of the large-map expansions that have been released in the last couple of years, this is the most significant expansion in a long time. And unlike Air Power, which we played for a few weeks then shelved forevermore, I have a feeling that this game would have remained on our gaming table for a long, long time. Alas, I lack a playing partner with the knowledge and depth of experience that my best friend had, but I play these games through solitaire now (do-able with a little bit of flexibility) as a tribute, and think how much Bill would have enjoyed this air expansion. Well worth buying!

Memoir '44: New Flight Plan is an excellent expansion that adds a new dimension to the classic wargame by introducing aircraft. This isn't just a simple add-on; it fundamentally changes the strategic landscape, providing new ways to attack and defend. The rules for aircraft are elegantly simple, maintaining the game's core accessibility while adding a layer of tactical depth that veteran players will appreciate. What's in the Box? π¦ The expansion includes a variety of components to support the new rules. You get 16 beautiful, detailed aircraft miniatures representing both Allied and Axis forces. The pack also comes with Aircraft stands to elevate the miniatures, making them visually distinct from ground units. To implement the new mechanics, you'll find Flight Plan cards, Air Sortie cards, and a new Air Power rulebook. The quality of the components is high, consistent with other products in the Memoir '44 line. Gameplay and Mechanics βοΈ The core of the expansion revolves around the new Air Sortie cards and the Aircraft units themselves. At the start of a turn, players can choose to use an Air Sortie card to bring an aircraft onto the board. These planes aren't static units; they move across the board, performing various actions like bombing runs, strafing attacks, and reconnaissance. The movement rules are straightforward: aircraft move a set number of hexes in a straight line, but their path is determined by the Flight Plan cards. This creates a clever puzzle where players must plan their bombing runs and strafing attacks carefully. The bombing mechanic is particularly satisfying. When an aircraft performs a bombing run, you roll dice to determine damage, similar to ground combat. Strafing attacks target ground units directly and can be very effective against infantry. The inclusion of aircraft forces players to think about more than just ground maneuvers. You have to consider enemy air threats and how to protect your key units from air attacks. Final Verdict: Is It Worth It? π Absolutely. This expansion is a must-have for any fan of Memoir '44. It doesn't overcomplicate the game but enriches it significantly. The new air units provide strategic options that were previously unavailable, and the new cards add a welcome element of unpredictability. The expansion breathes new life into existing scenarios and paves the way for exciting new ones. Itβs a great example of an expansion that truly enhances a game without bogging it down with complexity. If you've been looking for a way to refresh your Memoir '44 experience, New Flight Plan is the way to go.

Box is bigger than i had expected; same size as the original core game box. Excellent components, and adds a whole new facet to the game. Recommended.
