Review: Plug and Play - I have a Dell laptop that is hooked up to a Samsung S95F by a Silkland Ultra A certified HDMI "Ultra High Speed" cable. I was unable to get the highest resolution and refresh rate out of the TV and laptop. I researched and determined that I needed to use the USB-C lighting connection on the PC to achieve this. I purchased this adapter, plugged it into the laptop, plugged the same HDMI cable into the adapter and it worked with no issues. I adjusted various settings and could get 3840x2160 at 120HZ. That is the highest setting and rate the laptop / tv combo is capable of (at 120). The connection was easy, plug and play, No extra or external power required, the size of the adapter really didn't change anything on my setup (location of laptop and cables connected to the tv). As far as sound quality goes I could discern no difference between the before and after, still sounds great. I am using this setup to watch streaming 4K movies and OTA TV. The tv is setup as a dumb tv and just a monitor. Last thoughts. There are so many factors that will stop you from achieving the highest rates possible. The big three needed to achieve this are, 1. Is your GPU and PC hardware actually capable of providing the desired rates. 2. Is the display that you are using actually capable of the desired rates. 3. And this is the big one. Are the cables and connectivity actually rated for you tp properly connect # one and two above. It took me several days to source the correct hardware and this device was the correct hardware in my circumstance.
Review: The type c to hdmi 2.1 works with the lg 42c2 on 4k 120hz 12 bit RGB wtihout any issues. - This is the second time that I buy a type c/display port to HDMI 2. The first one was ULT-WIIQ-US 6.6ft, DP 1.4a to HDMI 2.1. Unfortunately, this cable had audio issues, it stutters every 30 seconds and after 4 days it stopped working on 4k 120hz RGB. I researched a lot on these adapters and I found out that my RTX 2070 support type c video out display port alt mode, so I searched these adapters too. It seems that many of these adapters suffers from overheating, signal loss when switching in and out of HDR. Also, some of them require USB power. It seems the most of these adapters use the same chipset, but, it is the firmware that cause these issues. Then I saw that Cable Matters provide firmware update for some of the display port/type c to HDMI 2.1 that mention many bugs fixes related to issues that I mentioned. I decided to buy the short adapter and buy a hdmi 2.1 cable instead of the cable type, as the adapter is more expensive than the cable and it reduce the chance for it to stop working properly. The longer the cable is, there is a higher chance for failure. As soon I got it I download the latest firmware update from Cable Matters website and saw that the cable is on older firmware, so I update it . It takes very short time, and it works without issues. I can send HDR signal without losing signal, the audio does not have any issues and as I wrote in the title, it works on 4k 120 Hz 12 bit RGB. I will update the review if the adapter will fail.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this adapter bidirectional? / Can I use it with my host’s HDMI output and my monitor’s USB-C input?**
A: No. This adapter is a unidirectional USB-C to HDMI adapter. It only converts video from USB-C with DP Alt Mode or Thunderbolt 3/4/5 ports (host) to HDMI displays. It does not support HDMI sources like the PS5 or Xbox to USB-C devices.

**Q: Does this adapter work with macOS? / Does it support 4K@120Hz, 4K@240Hz, or 8K on my Mac?**
A: This adapter can work with macOS host but is limited to 4K@60Hz on macOS. For 4K@120Hz or 4K@240Hz on Mac models, use the firmware-enhanced macOS version, ASIN B0DCN798Y1 / Model 201488.

**Q: How can I achieve 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz, or 4K@240Hz with this adapter?**
A: Actual output depends on the host USB-C/Thunderbolt port, GPU, drivers, HDMI 2.1 display, and certified HDMI 2.1 cable. Some TVs may require firmware updates or Enhanced/High-Refresh HDMI mode.

**Q: Why is there no video output, flickering, or no signal?**
A: Confirm the USB-C port supports DP Alt Mode, USB4, or Thunderbolt. Use a certified HDMI 2.1 cable, select the correct HDMI input, enable Enhanced/High-Refresh mode if needed, update GPU drivers, and lower the resolution/refresh rate.

**Q: Why do I get only 4K@120Hz with Intel GPUs and Acer monitors?**
A: This is a known compatibility limitation with Intel GPU and Acer monitor setup when using this product. With AMD or NVIDIA GPUs, the same monitor can reach 4K@144Hz or higher.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works with HDMI 2.1
*by 宮***蔵 on December 29, 2021*

Overall a good quality product. Successfully connected the HDR UHD LCD monitor of my upgraded Dell XPS 15 9510 running a film to my TV via one of my reverse-compatible Thunderbolt 4 USB-C type ports, this Cable Matters adapter, and a UGreen 48 Gbps 8K 2.1 HDMI 60 Hz Cable. Can confirm that 2.1 HDMI works very well at 60 Hz for 1920x1080p Full HD. No lags, good connectivity and image quality, and successful clear audio transmission. Currently using a NVIDIA(R) GeForce RTX(TM) 3050 Ti 4GB GDDR6 [45W] graphics card. This CableMatters device however, should definitely work for 10-bit 4K HDR UHD @120Hz but some people may be required to perform a manual setup, set up and apply an Nvidia settings custom resolution, or ensure that they have a GPU that supports 4k @120hz before this works. No drivers or external power supply required. For most, the computer will instantly recognise this device, there will be an immediate and unnoticeable installation, and simple plug and play. The cable does not seem to be able to achieve a top speed of 48Gbps but is nevertheless very fast, and from a viewpoint of practicality still does it's job very well. Quality of the male USB-C and female HDMI connectors is good and directly correlates to price paid. Quality of the aluminum protective materials is above average, and the cable although very short, on the cheap side, and slightly rigid, is both durable and user-friendly. So far no problems.
