These disposable replacement bags can simply be sealed and thrown away (see product labeling for details). This carton contains 6 replacement bags. A constant source of aggravation for gardeners, Japanese beetles eat 300 types of trees and plants. Metallic green with coppery brown wing covers, these 3/8 inch-long creatures are often found around homes and gardens. Spectracide Bag-A-Bug Japanese Beetle Trap2 uses a dual lure to draw Japanese beetles away from valuable ornamentals, flowers and shrubs. Does not include trap.

Review: These bags have worked for me AND I would like to counter some ideas about them. Maybe they pull from the whole neighborhood but personally I’m glad to help out my neighbors and their gardens. The important thing is, my many rose bushes and several Rose of Sharon bushes went from being full of Japanese Beetles, every single flower ruined, to zero Japanese Beetles. I saw that within one day after putting up several of these bags for my 15x40 ft garden. Before putting these bags up, I started with various sprays like Sevin. I did not notice any change in Japanese beetle population devouring and humping on my flowers. I’m not saying it didn’t help, but since I wasn’t seeing a fast enough change, and since I watched them run around happily while I was spraying right on them, I ran to my local store and put up one of these bags. I saw only a little bit of reduction in beetles, so I got another bag a bug and put it up on a garden stake only inches off the ground, about 6 foot from a rosebush. The next day I saw no Japanese beetles on the rose bush that was only 6 foot from a bag, but I did see some beetles on the roses and rose of Sharon that were maybe eight or 10 foot from a bag at the center of the garden . It seemed the closer the bag the better result I had for the rose bush. I could also see that I was going to need many of these bags and one wasn’t enough for 1000 ft. Also, I’m not gonna move them around every time the wind direction changes. Within a couple days, I had hung up 3 of them at 3 corners of my garden so they would work for any wind direction. They are each maybe 8 foot from the nearest rosebush. But like I say, I’m finding closer is better or at least not a problem.I have a fourth one up now hanging from a deck railing near the 4th corner. It seems to be working as well gathering a pile of Japanese beetles every day. I had ordered a different brand here with a bag that you can open up and clean out easily and that’s working also. That’s the one on my deck railing But I bought these replacement bags for this bag a bug brand, —even though you could clean out your old bags. Oh, one more important thing. I have found that I have to empty the bags every two days. Here in Iowa we seem to have a ton of these beetles. Forget this idea that the Japanese Beetles start to smell dead bugs only when the bag is half full and so won’t go in it. I find 2 days worth which is maybe less than an inch of dead beetles is seemingly too much for their little nostrils (?) and I start seeing an occasional beetle on my roses. I learned to change them out every two days. So I recommend watching for that. I have to say it can get expensive if you’re not cleaning and reusing your bags but ordering them like this is certainly easier. Cleaning these bags would be a bit of a trick because of their hourglass shape, though I have a friend doing just that for his. Even cleaning them I would want to have spares in case I get busy and don’t have time to clean bags. Even delaying by a day I could start losing flowers. The other brand I got has a square bag so when you open the bottom, it’s easy to rinse out the inside. I’ve added on two more bags today hanging from the shepherds hooks and they’re each collecting a ton of Japanese beetles. I’m happy to collect every Japanese beetle i can because I would like to not have them create the grubs to increase the population next year. Like I said, I’m happy to gather these bugs from my neighbors rose bushes as well for the same reason. It helps her and it helps me. Maybe these Japanese Beetles fly 5 miles, but I doubt they do it overnight without a tornado. I’m going to assume it’s theJapanese Beetles on my lot and the adjoining suburban lots that smell the pheromones in these bags. At any rate, the important thing is that my rosebushes and Rose of Sharon are now completely beetle free. At first, I saw one or two in the morning as I carried around my glass of soapy water to push them into… but for most of the last 10 days-Im enthusiastically reporting- that I have seen zero Japanese Beetles on my flowers. And I check many times in the heat of the day. I’m starting to see new roses with their lovely yellow centers instead of the black centers. I hope this helps anyone interested.
Review: The bag-a-bug Japanese Beetle Traps are great at keeping these beetles to a minimum. I put them up every June or as soon as I see one and now several years after I first started using these we hardly ever see a Japanese Beetle. I put up 3 bags around our 2 acre yard. I only needed to use 2 bags this year compared to 15 the first year I put them out. The less bugs there are to lay eggs, the less you have to deal with the next year and so on.

These bags worked well with my beetle traps from Spectracide. I worked hard this summer to eradicate Japanese beetles in my yard. I emptied daily and could use each bag for about 3 days before became yukky. Much less damage this year on my foliage, must have destroyed hundreds.
