No. In my experience, though, the blades will out last the plastic that surrounds them. What's the best way to clean if you don't have dishwasher?

Personally I prefer individual tools to this four-sided one, because it’s so hard to clean. When I had the tool you asked about… Immediately after using, shake/brush off any loose pieces on the tool. Then soak in warm, sudsy water. Rinse and use a fairly strong brush to scrub off any remains. Repeat if necessary. Personally I prefer individual tools versus the four-sided one. It’s tough to clean.

How thick are the slices made by the slicing blade?

The slicing blade cuts fairly thin. I'd say approx. 1/16" thickness. It's very good for shaving carrots, radishes, parmesan cheese, etc. for salads. Be sure to wear special gloves to protect your knuckles.

why does the plastic housing break and what is the company doing about it ?

I have had mine for a number of years with ho problem however I did have an issue with another item…a hand held grater with a plastic edging that cracked & they replaced it with an all metal one with no problem. I offered to send them the broken one & they said "no, just toss it" so I did. I found them to be quite easy to deal with & would not hesitate to contact them again if I should have an other issues. peace chris
