On first view I really thought this product was cheap but that was me judging the packaging and the overall size of the thing. Once I powered it on and got it onto the headstock of my bass, this thing rocketed through the tuning process! Aesthetics be damned, this thing is all about function over form and it does it on a budget! I’m absolutely floored by this tuner especially when compared to the offerings which are double the price and don’t offer anywhere close to this tuners level of performance and ease/simplicity of use.

I have the small "flash" version, and am using it primarily for bass guitars. The flash version is the one to get - it doesn't require battery changes, and all you have to do is charge it with a USB cable once every few months or so (they supply the cable, too). Doesn't take long to charge. Operation is simple: attach it to the guitar head. Little rubber grippy feet and the spring action are great. Hold power button for 2 seconds to turn it on (smart move, since this thing will probably get thrown into gig bags and be knocked around, and the 2 second hold prevents accidental activation, and therefore unnecessary battery drain). Strike an open note, and you'll see it spring to life, telling you its best guess for the string you're on, and whether you're sharp or flat with a floating orange meter. When you're done, hit the power button again, or just set it down and it will shut itself off after a while. Charger is USB standard. I not only tune my basses at the open strings, but also tune them at the 12th fret (+1 octave) to make sure my saddles are properly situated, and this one does the job just fine with octave intervals as well. It also works great for my five and six string basses, and will pick up on the low B and high C just fine. Also, be sure you adequately mute all other strings when tuning, or this thing could get confused once the other string begins to resonate. Also, if your action is too low, such that you get some fret buzz on an open string, it can likewise get confused, but most bass players don't lower their action that much anyway. Just be advised if you have some fret buzz on an open string from poor saddle height, bent neck, or what have you, tuning will be difficult with this thing. Only thing that this doesn't do, at least as far as I can tell, is allow for drop tuning at the half step. So, if you wanted to tune your bass to Eb, Ab, Db, and Gb (or even at the quarter step), this little gizmo isn't all that straightforward on the display to show you just how flat or sharp you are from the root note. This is a bit of a problem for me, because I tune my fretless bass one quarter step higher than the standard tuning, so that I can fret the note just behind the fret line, like one would with a fretted neck. Maybe I just haven't figured out how to read it properly, but for the standard tunings, the signal will turn blue when you're tuned properly. Haven't tried the other instrument tuners yet (guitar, violin, etc.), but I'm sure they work just as well as this one does. Highly recommended if you hate changing batteries and want something small and effective. Five stars.
