Vandoren SR272R Tenor Sax JAVA Red Reeds Strength 2; Box of 5

Reeds are very personal and of course, different reeds suit different mouthpieces and horns. i use the Java Red #2 on a King Zephyr with a reproduction Link Florida style mouthpiece with a facing somewhere between 5 & 6 -- relatively closed. I use the Java Red #2 1/2 on a Buescher Truetone with a somewhat more open mouthpiece. (Several different vintage mpcs with a big bore and high baffle.) I use Java Red #3 on my Buescher C soprano. I prefer the Java Reds to the Java Greens -- for me the former are freer blowing. I have read that the difference between the Reds and the Greens is that the former are filed. I still have a box of Greens and will try filing wood from the vamps. I've tried half a dozen artificial & coated reeds and the only one I like is one of the Bari tenor sax reeds and only on my alto clarinet where it plays better than any natural reed that I have tried. Go figure. I'm giving the Java Reds five stars because they have been very consistent.

I bought this for my Yamaha YTS-48 with a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece. It produces that good ole Jazz sound. I did end up returning. Not because of anything quality or sound related; more because the strength wasn't enough for me. I do however still recommend this product!

I am a wannabe intermediate player who likes jazz blues and funk. I play an eighties Yamaha YTS 52 semi pro tenor and I really play better with these Java Reds. You can get a sweet warm tone with a delicate resonant breathy timbre to the sound. These reeds also helps me hit the dreaded low B flat Note. I usually play until my lip is numb and then my friends will ask me “have you been drinking?” I tell them I’ve been blowing and they raise their eyebrows and then laugh. Great product and Weiner music deserves an arousing thumbs up.

Pretty average reeds. I like how they have the line on them so it’s easier to line up.

Great reed and a great strength for using with a wide jazz mouth piece. I can really crank out some sound and stay on pitch. Purchase was without incident and great fulfillment as normal.
