SOG Folding Knife SlimJim Slim Pocket Knife

I love this knife. It was very sharp upon arrival, and I have since sharpened it to a razor. It holds an edge very well, and is responsive to quick touch-ups on the blade. I was initially peeved by the opening mechanism. It can be difficult to see the blade open fully with the assisted action; it tends to get stuck halfway. Not only is this frustrating, it's a safety concern. Fret not. Be careful to use (or purchase if you have none) a cleaning solution and an oil/lubricant. Gun cleaner and lubricants work well. I have never had a knife open so buttery smooth, so consistently, with such a small amount of effort. You merely press on the thumb knob and it locks open immediately, no flick or user assistance is required. I can open it so quickly after taking it out of my pocket that people ask if it's a switch. I believe the un-lubricated difficulty opening has to do with the tolerances within this knife. It is CRAZY thin and short for a 3+ inch blade, and it has zero wobble or flex. It tucks away in a pocket without notice. It is light enough you won't think it's there, but feels weighty and strong in the hand. It is in fact very strong, I use this as a daily carry knife and it gets used in all forums. I drop it, get food on it, sit on it or what have you on a regular basis. Not a nick, no bending, no corrosion. I could see the Twitch 2 by SOG being a better knife overall. Handle thickness is highly prohibitive to me; if my knife is too thick I always find an excuse to leave it at home. So I prefer this one. Consider both of them before you buy.

I have added this to my EDC rotation. It is super thin and doesn't take up much space or weight in my pocket. The blade size is good for normal use. The knife is spring assisted. With a small flick with you thumb it opens itself. The quality is better than I expected. It is sturdy and easy to open. I think it is a great knife for the $40 price. The blade is sharp and easy to hone to razor sharp.

I've had my SlimJim for about a year now and I carry it literally every day. Other than me breaking the tip using it for something I shouldn't have, I have had zero issues with this knife. Incidentally, by taking my time and carefully grinding the backside I was able to get it's original shape back. I had difficulty opening the knife with 1 hand until I put a couple drops of gun oil on it and as you can see from the video that pretty much solved that issue. This is an awesome knife to carry around every day. It is extremely thin so you can pocket clip it with just about any kind of pants/shorts without any discomfort. Last, I love the blade lock on this thing! I own about 20 other quality knives, including Benchmade, CRKT, Gerber, Kershaw & Spyderco. Other than my Benchmade Barrage, this is the last knife I would do without.

WOW! I cant even believe this knife is so well advertised because it didnt live up to its hype the minute i got it out of the box. This knife is "assisted open" it didnt open all the way till i tried about 7 times because of a mechanical flaw that isnt something wrong with just my knife (i dont believe) i guess i COULD be wrong tho... Anyways that alone is bad enough not to mention the simple lock mechanism on it moves up everytime i open or close the knife now, not by choice! And the blade rubs on the handle when it opens and closes so its already getting scratches thru the black on the blade. The one thing that happened the way i expected for a $75 knife marked down to $45 which i think is a decent amount to spend on a knife. I also paid the $4 to get one day shipping and i didnt get it for 5 days but that has nothing to do with the knife that was just an added bonus... Worst knife ive ever owned, i cant believe they have the nerve to brag so much about it. If they have the decency to make it up to me i will edit this review in a way that so fits but i was just shocked at the quality, and to think i was excited about getting a nice knife from a "good company".

this is my second sog slimjim. the first one's tip broke from sticking it into a table too many times. obviously abuse on my part. but just a heads up that this is not a knife I'd want to use to pry stuff or use as a screwdriver. some knives can do that without taking damage. now one issue a lot of people complain about is the safety slide. this knife is a lockback, and the lock bar is pretty close up to the back of the blade. and yes, if you grip this knife tight while using it, it CAN close on your fingers. it HAS happened to me. but there is a sliding lock that keeps the blade locked open which effectively prevents this from happening. the problem comes when you realise that this same lock bar also prevents the knife from opening, and its very hard to pull the knife out of your pocket without engaging the lock. here is my solution. you'll notice that lock slider has a slant on one side to make it slip easier under the lock bar. all I did was take off the slide and reverse it, clamping it back on with a pair of pliers. now it can still slide under whileock bar when the knife is open, but not while its closed. problem solved! you would think sog would fix this issue, but that's OK. that being said this knife is the slimmest assisted opener and definitely the easiest knife to grab and throw in my pocket. it's the only knife I often forget is even there when I throw my pants in the wash. ts about as thick as two quarters stacked up, not including the thumb studs and pocket clip. love this knife. my friend got the bigger version and broke the tip even quicker than I did. also it's still huge. too big for me to want to carry without fear of getting in trouble. also they come super sharp. like REALLY sharp. like shave your face with it sharp. I have mixed feelings about this knife. I really want(ed) to like it and do still, but it has some issues that people need to be aware of. It's a fairly sturdy little knife, came quite sharp and I love how small and thin it is which was the main reason that I bought it. There have been a lot of people complaining about the knife just randomly opening in their pockets however and this issue, I believe, is largely due to the locking mechanism. When the knife is closed, if pressure is applied to the back of the handle on the locking mechanism (which is something that can easily, inadvertently happen due to the design of the handle), the knife springs open and locks into place with little to no effort. This effectively turns this "assisted opening" knife into an unassisted opening, switchblade style knife which is illegal in many areas. If you want a sturdy, lightweight little knife to stow SECURELY in a backpack or BOB, this might work for you but it's definitely not something I'd keep in a pocket or loose where it could accidentally spring open and cause damage/injury. 06.03.16 - Edit - I've upgraded my rating on this one.. There's actually a tiny slide-lock built in to the handle that locks the knife closed which alleviates the problem of it opening on its own (see picture) I couldn't find this feature listed anywhere and I don't recall seeing it on the packaging when I bought the knife so that has been overlooked all this time (and I would imagine by a lot of other reviewers who are having the same issue with this knife) With knowing that, this knife is actually pretty good and is still the thinnest and has the lowest profile of most similar style pocket knives in its class. However, with the need to have the slide-lock engaged when the knife is closed so it doesn't spring open in your pocket, that pretty much makes it so you can't pull the knife out and open it quickly in one fluid motion. You first need to disengage the slide-lock and because the lock is so small, it's quite hard to do one handed making quick deployment fairly clunky.

I'm not sure why other buyers have had issues opening the knife, I have no trouble at all, I find it very comfortable. To open the knife is a little different than most spring-assissted knives. For this knife, it's more of a sliding your thumb upwards motion or you can use your index finger on the other side. For me this is an EDC knife, and that's where the only real "issue" I have with the knife comes up. The little hex nut that holds the spring/torsion system in place gets a little loose after 60-75 opens. For me this is not a problem at all as I carry a micro screwdriver (eye glass) on my keychain anyway which weighs less than half an ounce. And I can tigten it at my leisure. Truly a gentleman's carry. This beautiful and very sharp blade is amazing, once you start carring a sharp blade with you, you'll wonder how you ever did without it. To peel/cut fruit. Open mail, whatever the case may be. This is an amazing pocket carry. Very slim. Highly recommend.

I’ve had the knife for 4 years now and carry almost every day. If you are a blue collar guy or retired and wear jeans everyday I wouldn’t bother with this one. I have several SOGs and like them all. My favorites are the Trident and the Slim Jim. This is so light and thin you literally forget you’re carrying it. I wear it with slacks or shorts. Because it’s so light and thin it’s not as easy to flick open but that comes with the light weight! It’s wicked sharp and holds an edge. No I would use this one to pry and beat on but that’s not what it’s for. It’s for cutting and is certainly competent for self defense. When I wear jeans I carry a heavier knife like the Trident. It’s easier to flick open and is much thicker and easier to manipulate. Blade is thicker as well. If you work in an office and want to have a lightweight super tough bulletproof knife, the Slim Jim is for you.

Llego rapidamente y una vez en la mano comprobe que es una muy buena compra. Muy ligera, facil de llevar, no abulta en el bolsillo y su sitema de seguridad es muy bueno. El unico pero es que quiza sea un poco dura al abrirla.

Sehr gutes, scharfes und schlankes Messer. Wer soetwas sucht, ist damit gut bedient. Auch die Öffnungsunterstützungsfunktion ist tiptop. Absolute Kaufempfehlung.

Gute Idee, schlecht umgesetzt. Mit meiner Handgrösse habe ich in 5/10 Öffnungen die überstehende Entriegelung aktiviert. Wodurch die Klinge nicht fixierte. Ich will keine spezialtechnik lernen ein Messer zu öffnen. Es soll einfach funktionieren. Eine versenkte Verriegelung durch simples ausschneiden einer Fingermulde am Griffrücken würde das Problem lösen. Ansonsten wäre es ein tolles Teil
