Transferred 160GB of data PC to drive with WD USB 3.0 cable provided with, took quite awhile. Also slightly to long for my needs. Purchased this StarTech.com in 6 inch version. Transfer of same 160GB of identical data, PC to drive was noticeably faster! I would guess 1/2 of the time the WD USB 3.0 stock cable took. I wanted a short transfer cable for side of Notebook where Portable HD sits. Needed shortest cable possible, even the 12 inch cables have extra to deal with. This small 6 inch does not have the gold plated ends but as far as file transfer speed, it works extremely fast. Just purchased 2 more for computer travel bags and as backup cables. **Q: Can this charge my galaxy s5 like a normal usb 3.0 charger or is it slower?** A: I purchased this to use as a short connection between a Samsung Portable SSD T1 and my MacBook Pro laptop. It does not charge anything. It was the configuration of the micro B portion of the device I was most interested in. I have never used a galaxy s5 and frankly do not know what it is.
