I have a plastic Drill Gauge card (the ones with holes matching drill bits) & it matches the 23/64 hole. Says 9.13mm under it. Google has a good converter. It's not that deep. Hope that helps. **Q: How useful is the activity guide? I am trying to decide between this set and the math link cubes which do not offer any guides.** A: Sorry, I didn't use the activity guide. Our kindergarden did a sit down with parents about the cubes, ten tables, red/yellow circle chips & some example pages. It was easy to figure out how it worked though. Four yellow squares with two blue, yea!, visual math! They all seem like cheap plastic, so I'd recommend just going with cheap (but safe) ones. I chose this set because at the time it 'was' the cheapest & had descent reviews. They do fit snuggly, some are looser then others & I have seen other cubes that handle better. This have done fine for us. If the core teaching is still being taught in a few years my other child will use them too.... for math. Not for the Lego cities that are being created now due to summer.
