The variety of problems in each lesson is great. In just the first week his attitude shifted and he is starting to feel confident in his ability to do math again. I didn't know about the "textbook" that goes with the workbook and didnt order it when making this purchase. I think it is possible to use the workbook without it if there is someone available with familiarity with the concepts. Some of the lessons are set up more as review and don't go too in depth with explanations.
