Hi Andrew, The silica was produced in Thailand, the non-toxic reflective edging is produced in Taiwan, the food-safe silicone is produced in China and the entire product was sewn and assembled in China. From your previous reviews, it looks like you are interested in where things come from, so we wanted to be as specific as possible. Thanks for your question.

It is coated with a waterproof, high temp silicone. It is very, very water-resistant. However, if submerged in water for longer than an hour, the reflective edges will absorb water. For this fact, we can not call this "waterproof" If used normally, it will not absorb water, rot or mildew. Thanks for your question.

Is this suitable for a composite deck?

Yes, we tested on a composite deck. The composite we tested on was the brand Trex. Please be aware, your fire must be at least 10" off the composite deck to not allow heat transfer to damage your deck. This is designed to stop popping embers leaving your fire. It does work to mitigate some of the heat, but it won't stop the massive radiant heat that is too close to your deck. Most wood campfires burn around 1700F. Let us know if you have more questions.
