Could I plug my phone into the mic jack and then record some songs from phone to a cassette?

YES. Use a 3.5mm-to-3.5mm cable. I bought a short 6 inch cable for less clutter and rest my phone next to the recorder. I record audio off YouTube, but you could use Spotify, Pandora or other sources. A lot of other answers are confusing because the recording you get isn't perfect. It records to blank tapes in mono. Yes it records phone to tape just fine. As far as quality, that's another decision. Happy shopping.

yes. there is not much out there anymore when it comes to tape recorders. Everything is turning digital

can I plug this into my computer?

When recording a mono player to a your computer, use a mono to mono 3.5mm (1/8") phone cable. This will allow you to record the single audio channel from the cassette recorder to the computer's stereo with the same signal for both the left and right channels. You should also be able to set the recording software to record in mono.
