I recommend getting the 5lb item because you can still use the ankle strap as a 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 lb ankle weight simply by removing the individual weight bags. I was a bit concern about these weights based on a few negative reviews. The 5lb ankle weights come with 5 small individual 1 lb bags which are filled with very tiny metal beads (pen head size). You can feel them in the bag. The bags are NOT filled with sand. You can remove each bag from it's fabric slot. I removed 3 of the bags to first start exercising with only 2lbs. As I progressed, I added another bag. The 1lb bags slide into small pockets in the ankle strap. The bags fit tight in their slots, but it's not difficult removing them or putting them back in. The fabric holding the metal beads is nylon which allows them to slide a bit. No worries about the bags falling out. The weight strap goes around your ankle using velcro to secure it in place. It's very comfortable. Great design. I'm a bit disappointed for two things. One, the photos on Amazon are misleadingly labeled as wrist and ankle weights, but the model I bought is only ankle weights. But that's my mistake, and it's not a big deal since I bought them to be used for ankle weights. Secondly, the supposed "iron" weights are actually not iron as far as I can tell, since they don't appear to do anything my magnets, even neodymium magnets. Probably sand? But other than these two points, they work great and definitely a deal.
