Dimmer switches aren’t! *by J***. on May 4, 2022* I was attracted to the idea for having multiple smart screens connected to my SmartThings hub with my zwave lights, locks, Sonos system and ring cameras. I added two Brilliant controllers, one in my open concept family room and the other in the master bathroom. Both work without flaws, and provide the ability of merging all my smart devices in and create unique scenes. Ring cameras are visible anytime someone’s at the front door and I can see, hear and talk through the controllers very bright and sharp screen. If you are looking for an additional controller with an amazing bright screen, Brilliant Controllers are a great choice! On the other hand, the optional dimmer switches, look great and had the slick looking non toggle appearance I wanted. But these are not zwave and only connect via Bluetooth to your Brilliant controllers, not your smartthings hub. I found these to be difficult to connect, and in some cases they failed right out of the box and would freeze up. 70% failed. So I will stay with zwave dimmer’s and switches, connected with smartthings and use the Brilliant controllers in a few strategic locations around the home. The Brilliant support team was prompt and helpful to check and confirm that the wiring was completed correctly, but after numerous failures, offered no solution other than replacement of one of the dimmers. So this was an expensive experiment.
