Works with old garage door openers!
I had put off getting one of these because I thought you needed a newer garage door opener with Wi-Fi or something in order to use them, but that is not the case! I bought an old house with an ancient craftsman garage door opener and both of the remotes are breaking up so when I saw one of these on resale on Amazon, I decided to give it a try. I was amazed and very happy that it works with my old craftsman garage door opener, and it was very easy to set up. You scan the QR code in the box to download the app to your phone. I had a bit of a misdirection by picking garage door openers instead of” the hub” . But I finally realized my mistake and from there, it was very easy. You just follow the steps in the app. you plug in the hub you tell it your Wi-Fi password. you stick the sensor on the door. You get on the ladder and push the button on your garage door opener motor and then it connects! I am so happy I got this so worth it!

You might need TWO of these
WARNING! I love this product and heartily recommend it. But you absolutely should read the rest of this review, though if you’re rushed for time scroll to my CONCLUSION at the bottom. Background: I changed internet service providers and had to reconnect all my devices to the new WiFi router, including TWO MyQ garage door openers. The instructions to reconnect the door openers failed multiple times. I then spent nearly 2 hours on the phone with the manufacturer, and nothing they advised worked either. They then sent me a long detailed email of all the adjustments that needed to be made to my router settings to get the MyQ openers to work. This took another almost 2 hours with my internet provider. And the $&@! Garage door openers still didn’t work. The offered solution by the MyQ technician was then to buy this product. Upon receipt, I had one opener hooked up and running in minutes. BUT THEN THE PROBLEM! This kit only hooks up ONE opener. So I go back to Amazon to buy the “additional sensor required,” should have been simple. This sensor costs $80!!!!! How can part of a $30 kit cost more than 2X the kit itself? So I bought another kit, threw the second hub in the “e-waste to be recycled” box, and now I have two fully connected and networked garage door openers and saved myself $50. CONCLUSION: IF YOU HAVE TWO OR MORE SEPARATE GARAGE DOOR OPENERS, BUY ONE KIT FOR EACH OPENER.

Peace of mind knowing my garage door won't be left open again!
This is one of those purchases that is such a convenience and has made my life easier I would definitely recommend if youre considering getting one. We've had a problem in my house with the garage door being left open all night even had someone come in and steal stuff due to it accidentally being left open. Set up was very simple the app walks you through connecting everything. I can set the garage door to close at a certain time every night if it's left open so I have multiple close times set. There is no automatic open schedule for safety reasons you definitely dont want it opening automatically in any situation when you can just push a button and open yourself from the app. I can literally open or close my garage door from states away. I was in Montana and able to close my garage in Washington state. You can also connect it to Amazon if you want packages left in your garage. I don't know if I trust delivery drivers enough for that yet so won't be using that feature but I really love this thing. Worth trying it out!

Easy setup, simple interface; weak wireless
I have an old Craftsman opener (with a square green sync button; no idea of a year, could be as old as 1998). My opener sync'd with this flawlessly. This is a lengthy review, but I wanted to cover everything possible that's I've observed. The app is simple and loads quick. I wish it had more customization to it, but I also understand keeping it simple. When you want to open the door, it starts opening as soon as you push the button on the app. When you want to close it, the controller flashes a bright white light and beeps, warning anyone nearby. The app gives you a 30-second countdown, but my door is closed within 10-seconds of pressing close (that includes the warning beep/flash delay time). You can have alerts sent to your phone and/or email, whenever the door opens, closes, or stops. There is also an option to send you a reminder of an event 10 minutes after it occurred. (I currently have a reminder set for the door being open for the 10 minute option.) For any alert, you can also specify what time of day you want them to come through if you want to limit the notifications. You also have an option to set a schedule. It will only allow you to schedule closing (not opening). This can be handy if you want to make sure your door is closed every night at 10pm. For reference, I have a 2-car garage (24x24) with a 16ft door and 10ft ceilings (pretty typical garage). I mounted the open/close sensor to my door with screws to the center metal support on my door. I didn't want to mess with double-sided tape being in the Midwest (doubt it would stick in January). I wish the open/close sensor used AAA or AA batteries, but instead it uses a coin-style battery (size 2450). I'm much more likely to have AAA or AA on hand than to have a spare coin battery; that's my only reasoning. We'll see how long the battery lasts. My only gripe with this is the wireless reception. My cellphone shows 3 of 4 bars for wifi in my garage. Initially, I had this control mounted up by my opener (where most put it and where the directions say to). It would constantly drop connection to my wifi. I moved the control box to the side wall of my garage (so 12ft closer to my wifi router) and so far so good. I have a wifi temp sensor located in my garage as well and it has never dropped connection; it runs on AA batteries, not AC power. I've also never had an issue with my cellphone. If I could ask for any changes/improvements, it would be to use AA or AAA batteries and to have better wireless reception. These are why I took off one star.

A Smart Upgrade That Transformed My Garage!
This smart garage controller has been a complete game changer! My garage door system is at least 20 years old, so I wasn't sure how well it would work—but it exceeded my expectations. I'm the type of person who doesn't like reading instruction manuals and has very little patience when it comes to installation. Even so, I had this set up without any problems. I don't know how to use a drill, so I simply used heavy-duty sticky tape to mount it, and it worked perfectly. The small sensor has a magnet that attaches directly to the garage door, making installation even easier. My favorite feature is being able to open and close my garage from my phone, no matter where I am. I also receive alerts every time the garage door opens or closes, which gives me extra peace of mind. I even had my first Amazon in-garage delivery, and everything went smoothly without any issues. I also purchased the compatible camera while it was on sale through Amazon. I'll be posting a separate review for that once I've had more time to use it. Overall, I highly recommend this smart garage controller!

Great unit - GREAT phone customer service when needed!
I've had this installed and their app running for about 7 months (DIY by me, a 60+ y/o female). It was easy to install and worked right away. There are helpful videos on-line you can watch also (and I ran it on my laptop while in the garage to follow along with the steps to install). It has been great UNTIL YESTERDAY - but their CUSTOMER SERVICE PHONE PERSON WAS GREAT! Which is why I'm finally reviewing this. App stopped showing the control and acted like I needed to set up a new unit suddenly. I tried unplugging it, and even unplugged my router. That didn't resolve it. The app stopped recognizing that I had the Hub and sensor installed. The HELP/APP CHAT on my phone was useless and a waste of time IMHO, but gave me a phone number to call for help. After calling you need to give answers to an (AI??) agent voice. NOTE: be sure you hear a clicking after your answers when first calling, or you'll just be sitting there while waiting for it to recognize your answer! Happened to me, and it was waiting for a YES answer not explanation! Once that was done, I was connected quickly to help. Agent was patient even when my phone cut out a few times since I was in the garage. He even asked if he could call me back if we were disconnected. He walked me through the app menu to get to where I could reset the hub (turned out the hub on the garage door wasn't connecting). He waited until all steps on app were followed by me (many are skipped such as installing Chamberlain units on wall and garage door). I re-paired our (Genie) Garage door opener to the unit (HELPFUL HINT - use a long broom handle rather than have to get on a ladder to push the pairing button!!) and he waited until the garage door worked (lights blinked and unit beeps and door opened once paired) and waited to make sure I was able to see the unit in my app to control it and close the door. It's a great unit, and It's been nice to be able to open the door with the app while in my vehicle. Really, it has worked great for 7 months. I did have to change out the battery on the small hub that attaches to the inside of the garage door much sooner than I thought (about 2 months after I first got it installed). I had a notification in the app that it was low. It was easy to do and the battery was available at my grocery store. If for some reason I ever need to get another one, I'd choose Chamberlain. Worked great with my 9 y/o Genie Model 4024 garage door opener and I feel they'd help with any issues I may have in the future.

Easy setup and works great with Tesla
I picked this up mainly because I wanted my 2025 Tesla Model 3 to be able to open and close my garage door automatically, and it ended up being much easier to set up than I expected. Installation was straightforward, and the myQ app walked me through the process without any headaches. Getting it connected to my Tesla was also surprisingly simple. Once everything was linked, I was able to control the garage from the car and from my phone, which has been really convenient. No more wondering whether I left the garage open after leaving the house. The app has been reliable so far, and I like having notifications and the ability to check the door status remotely. Just make sure your opener is compatible and that you have a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network available. Overall, this was exactly what I needed. If you're a Tesla owner without built-in garage connectivity, this is an easy and relatively inexpensive way to add smart garage functionality.

Great Product Undermined by Stupid Problem
While trying to put together a Ring system I discovered that garage door openers could be integrated into Ring, too. The beauty of MyQ is that it can be integrated into a number of different openers. You don’t need to own a Chamberlain opener to use it. In my case I own a Craftsman door opener that might be 20 years or older. But it is Homelink compatible and according to the Chamberlain MyQ website it should work with the MyQ Smart Garage Control. I am a tech guy and like to read the manuals to see how to install things and use them. I wasn’t able to find a manual or any kind of installation instructions online. The instructions that come with the garage control are equally thin on details. This ought to be a big deal and a problem. It wasn’t. Ordinarily I would ding a manufacturer for providing so little information but these guys executed this brilliantly. You’re asked to install the MyQ app on your mobile device at the beginning. After doing that, the app leads you through the step by step installation with one simple screen of pictures and instructions followed by another. When you get to a big step, you are shown a video and which details exactly what you are about to do next. When the video ends you advance through the steps you just watched in the video one screen at a time. Everything is very straightforward and you pretty much know every step of the way that what you just completed was successful. The product is well designed. There are buttons and indicators to test functionality, pair devices, etc. The power cord to the hub might be a bit long depending upon where you install it. Not a problem as the hub is designed so that the excess cord wraps around the hub. To mount the hub, you drill a couple of holes for a baseplate, place the hub on the base, and twist the hub onto the base to lock it in place. The control worked immediately and I was amazed at how easy it was to install. For something so well designed, so easy to install, and so easy to make work, you are probably wondering why I am giving it 3 stars. This really bothers me because I absolutely love this product. The issue is that one of the components of the control is a sensor that mounts on the door. The sensor was easy to pair with the hub. You push a button, get an indication that it is paired and stick it on the door. I like the idea of sticking it on the door. I have a high quality metal door and I don’t want to be drilling holes in it. They provide you with a couple of pairs of hook and loop fasteners (I won’t say Velcro because I don’t know if it is Velcro brand). One side gets stuck to your sensor, the other side gets stuck to your door. If for some reason you need to remove the sensor from the door, just grab it and pull it from the door. Stick it back in place when you’re done. The problem is that the mating pairs of hook and loop fasteners don’t stick to themselves. The adhesive on the hook and loop fasteners seems to have plenty of sticking power, but the hook and loop fasteners don’t stick to themselves at all. The hook and loop fasteners just don’t work well at all. Less than an hour after mounting the sensor it fell on the floor. I tried mightily to get it to stick again and it did, until it fell off again after lunch time today. This is a problem as the instructions say to mount it near the outer edge of the garage door. That puts it right over the tire track of your vehicle. I don’t think it will survive being driven over by a full size truck. What we have is an excellent product, well considered and well designed, easy to install, that should be a home run on every level. And it is seriously undermined by a stupid hook and loop fastener that could render the product worthless if the sensor breaks when it hits the garage floor or you run over it. Technology comes easy for me but I think they did such a great job with this product, the in app instructions and video, that anyone should be able to put one of these in. I’d recommend this to anybody with the caveat that they get a good quality hook and loop fastener to use in place of what is supplied for the door sensor. With a good set of hook and loop fasteners this product is 5 stars. I am removing a star for the sensor not staying stuck and an additional star because the sensor falling from the door could be fatal.

Frustrating. I don’t recommend.
It seems that the MyQ app has stopped integrating with their own product, the Smart Garage Hub. It wasn’t even showing up in Device Management, so I couldn’t add the device to the app. I wasted so much time troubleshooting this. One weekend, it didn’t even allow me to register my new account, as their servers appeared to be down. Now that they’ve discontinued third-party integrations like HomeAssistant, I’m not sure if anyone would still be interested in buying this, like I was. Unfortunately, their system is so buggy and convoluted.

Onbruikbaar in Belgie
