I enjoy riding horses & go on cattle drives in Montana & Wyoming. We round up 800 to 1,000 head of cattle over 10 to 15 days. Riding 6 to 20 hours in the saddle each day. I find this a fun & rewarding vacation. This book helped me learn more about horses & horse care. Very enlightening & well presented. I’d recommend this product. Jess

This book is very informative. Exactly what I hoped to learn about horses. I was disappointed that it does say that horses aren’t smart in the beginning, as someone else reviewed. Maybe the author should have compared the intelligence level to something else instead of a generalized statement. I also didn’t like how it says horses evolved this and that. I don’t believe in evolution but If you do you won’t mind it. The pictures are beautiful. Very happy with this purchase in general.

I wanted this book as a gift for someone who has been taking riding lessons and who thought about getting a horse. I searched through a ton of books and finally selected this one based on a number of things. I think this book breaks down the various aspects of horse anatomy, care, history, tools of the trade, etc. very well. The book is broken up into short engaging articles with a ton of color pictures so someone can jump around to the topics that interest them and really learn a lot. I read a lot of reviews in which people said this book was too basic but I disagree. It's definitely not written for a veterinarian but I think it will teach a lot to a beginner or intermediate horse lover!

This book isn't a small book, it's a good size book that has a lot of information and good pictures in it. It talks about loading and unloading a horse in a trailer, feed and water, tacking up, cleaning tack, daily routines for stalled or pastured horses, keeping your horse happy, it talks a little about blankets, and the pictures are good sized and nice to look at (also their in color). This book shows steps for doing things and also talks about sweat on horses after working them and taking care of that in a little bit of detail. I learned a lot from this book and I just glanced at it. It also goes into detail about cleaning a horse for a show and braiding and just overall care. It's a great book and I'm really glad I bought it now instead of waiting for Christmas.

This is the book I was hoping to get. I needed a horse book for dummies, but I think this could be great for any level of experience. I love the charts and tables for guidelines!
