Review: I wish I'd installed this many years ago! - I've always had exterior doors with latches that don't lock and used a deadbolt to lock the door as these require action to lock the door whether from inside or outside. This essentially eliminates the possibility of ever being locked out without my keys. So I wanted a combination lock that would never lock automatically. This fit the bill as it requires that the thumbscrew be turned to lock the door whether from inside or outside. I like the fact that this model does not have a manual key lock embedded in its thumbscrew because this means there's no lock to 'pick' and it also makes clear to a visitor/1st-time user what the function of the thumbscrew is - the ones that combine thumbscrew and keylock don't look obviously a thumbscrew. Another advantage of this design that required physical human action to lcok the door is that the absence of a motor to move the deadbolt in/out of the 'lock' position means the battery lasts many times longer. I was a little thrown by the higher price tag compared to some of the competition but two features swung me in the direction of this one: 1. The audible and visible 'low battery' alert 2. In an emergency, the ability to "jump start" the lock by touching terminals of a fresh 9v battery to unobtrusive terminals on exterior keypad 3. The sleek uncluttered, contemporary matt black and chrome design Since the door in which I installed this is thicker than most and is made of steel, not wood, I was not confident that I would be able to install it. But, as it turned out, installation was a breeze. It's only been in place a few hours, long enough for me to change default codes and enter a few personal codes. Seems very simple and easy to use (crucial to keep programming code secure but also readily accessible in case of emergency - this can be a challenge with such things sometimes) I wish I'd installed this many years ago!
Review: Another great product from Schlage - I have been a professional locksmith for over 14 years and have used many Schlage products. When they introduced their original keyless entry for residential applications in 2007 I bought one and promptly installed it on my home. It is still running to this day. As soon as this newest design was released from Schlage I purchased on and just received it today. I installed it on my side garage door, which is my most used door. I look forward to seeing how it holds up to the elements. But for now, here is my opinion of the lock: Pros: 1) The lock is easy to install, as long as you have a 2 1/8" standard deadbolt prep this lock will install very easily. 2) The lock has a small knob which the user must use to throw the bolt instead of being driven by a motor. This allows for the user to ensure that the bolt throws correctly. Bolts which use a motor are subject to having the motor burn out if the door becomes misaligned. 3) The terminals on the outside for a 9 volt battery provide an emergency power source, so even if you run your battery dead, you'll still be able to get in. 4) The multiple user codes are nice, so you can give out codes to multiple people such as contractors and delete their codes when they are finished. 5) The interior trim piece leaves a much smaller footprint than the previous model. This looks much nicer. Tucking the wires inside took a second, but it's worth it. Overall I feel it's a great lock and I really don't have any complaints. The older model is also still a great lock, and a little bit cheaper, so if you're on a budget you may want to look at the older style. I'm sure the price will come down on this lock in a few months.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I wish I'd installed this many years ago!

I've always had exterior doors with latches that don't lock and used a deadbolt to lock the door as these require action to lock the door whether from inside or outside. This essentially eliminates the possibility of ever being locked out without my keys. So I wanted a combination lock that would never lock automatically. This fit the bill as it requires that the thumbscrew be turned to lock the door whether from inside or outside. I like the fact that this model does not have a manual key lock embedded in its thumbscrew because this means there's no lock to 'pick' and it also makes clear to a visitor/1st-time user what the function of the thumbscrew is - the ones that combine thumbscrew and keylock don't look obviously a thumbscrew. Another advantage of this design that required physical human action to lcok the door is that the absence of a motor to move the deadbolt in/out of the 'lock' position means the battery lasts many times longer. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love these locks

I have three of these at my home. I haven't been burgled so I can't vouch for the security. But these are far better than the old Kwkset combo locks that came with the house. My research indicated these were superior. The battery lasts forever...years... bc there isn't an actuator motor to eat up battery life. Should the battery die between uses, there's a way to use a 9v battery to power the lock from the outside. It's a very clever design. The combination allows the user to turn the latch themselves. I don't need a battery performing that task for me, just need it to allow me to operate the latch. These are much better looking locks. They feel more solid, more secure, higher quality build. Finally, the default combinations are real, randomized numbers that the user can retain securely, should they desire. This tells me Schlage really cares about the security of customers' homes. They know many folks don't change the factory combination so Schlage does not ship with "1-1-1-1" defaults. Note that NO KEYS ship with these locks, they are keyless. You can't monkey with the cylinders from outside the door. If the battery dies, the only way to gain entry is with a 9v battery with charge, and knowing the combinations. If you forget the combination, there is a way to revert to factory defaults, but you have to know the factory defaults. Or you will need to break into your own house. I've never had an issue. Recommend!
