PAVAROTTI: "The 50 Greatest Selections"
I found out about this release for Pavarotti while on "spotify." After listening to several tracks, I was very impressed with this cd released celebrating Pavarotti's 50 years with Decca records (now that's what I call real loyalty). I decided to order this 2-cd set from a reputable seller on amazon.com. Little did I realize that the seller was in Argentina, but my cd arrived on time as promised and in new condition. I have sampled some of my favorite selections throughout both cd's. This cd set will be great travel music when I venture on my 4 hour drive to West Virginia State Parks in October 2014. The final selection on Disc 2 is duet with Frank Sinatra and Lucciano Pavarotti performing "My Way." Bravo to one of the greatest tenor singers during my lifetime. Pavarotti stands up there with Mario Lanza, Andrea Boccelli, Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, and the great CARUSO. DECCA records has done a stellar job remastering these selections, many from analog tapes onto their 2-cd set. I guess because Pavarotti wished to pay tribute to his fine fortune and success with the Decca label is the primary reason they utilized the Decca records label in lieu of their normal LONDON label (owned by Decca) for classical releases. Finally, if you are a ardent fan of Pavarotti, then this is one cd set that you should purchase for your collection. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed with his performances herewith.

Bravo, Bravisimo!!
After the passing of Luciano Pavarotti, I realized not only did I not get to see him live, but I didn't have any of his recordings in my music library, so I fixed the latter with the purchase of this collection and I'm very happy I did! I think that even if you're not an avid fan of opera you'd be entranced by the passionate, wrenching performances and familiar pieces on this CD. In my book Mr. Pavarotti is and always will be, on many levels, the greatest tenor of our time...

Excellent 4 + 1/2 Stars
If you don't have any Pavarotti in your collection this is a very good place to start. The recording quality is excellent and there are many rarities in this eclectic collection (e.g., his first recording in 1961 of Che Gelida Manina). Personally I would have trimmed a few of the tracks to include "Un Amore Cosi Grande", "Torna A Surriento", and of course "Core ngrato" , but that's me. Also check out: "Amore: Romantic Italian Love Songs". Bellissimo !

A voice we miss
Pavarotti was a legend with the three tenors and after his passing we lost in my opinion a legend in the opera world. It is true that Andrea Bocelli has taken on the mental of the next great opera singer from Italy but the Three tenors are the very first tenors I heard sing and they were incredible singers all three of them. Pavarotti in my opinion carried that mental for the tenors and did it with grace, poise, and class.

A Voice for the Ages
Attended a Pavarotti concert in Hartford several years before he passed. One of the best evenings ever. This CD set opens with his signature piece Nessun Dorma. Spectacular. For me, a transport back to the live performance. He had captivated the audience that night with his incredible voice, style and waving white handkerchief. I consider his voice and talent one of the greatest gifts possible to a world needing more visits from gifted individuals who spend a lifetime sharing music that lifts the spirit and touches the soul. Really enjoyed the last 4 bands on disc 2. What a combo: Sting, then Eric Clapton, Bono et. al. and the wrap with Sinatra ( on his 100 bday year). Doesn't get any better than this. Peggo

Pavarotti album
This album has a wide selection of the tenor's greatest performances from a variety of operas, as well as a few duets with other famous tenors. Pavoratti is, as always, superb! Quality of the recordings is excellent, titles and composer of each recorded track translate to ipod, digital player or computer and are displayed. All in all a good selection at a reasonable price. Download from the Amazon site is easy and without any bugs.

This 2 CD compilation is a smorgasbord of Pavarotti in one place. While the opera pieces of the singer are commonly seen and heard, this compilation contains some excellent duets with the likes of Eric Clapton, Sting, Bono et al. They come at the end of the recordings, and really complete the Pavarotti experience. Must have.

As all of us as we grow older, we weaken. Our strength and vitality seep away leaving us the same person, but not the same talent. Pavarotti possessed a wonderful instrument that remained with him until his death. His later appearances were often joint performances. He often sang reading from a score on a music stand. These latter day appearances were not as rich as he was distracted by his reading. On this CD we hear early performances when he had memorized the scores. His young voice is wonderful when he puts his full concentration and emotion into these songs. We can hear why he was considered a phenomenon during the 1970's.
