2018 Revised Edition Since shortly after its original release in 2008, Olympic Weightlifting: A Complete Guide for Athletes & Coaches has been the most popular book on the sport of weightlifting in the world and has become the standard text for learning and teaching the snatch and clean & jerk. This all new third edition has been expanded over 150 pages with revised and improved chapters, new chapters, improved organization, more tables and diagrams, over 600 photographs, improved readability, and improved reference functionality with an index, glossary and expanded table of contents. The book presents a complete progression for athletes and coaches starting with foundational elements such as breath control and trunk stabilization, squatting, balance and weight distribution, warming-up, individual variation; working to complete learning and teaching progressions for the snatch, clean and jerk; covering training program design extensively, including assessment for recruiting and new lifters, and 16 sample training programs; technical error correction, nutrition, bodyweight manipulation, and mobility; and a thorough section on competition to prepare both lifters and coaches. โSimply the best book available on Olympic weightlifting.โ -Don Weideman, Vice President, Pacific Weightlifting Association โWithout a doubt the best book on the market today about Olympic-style weightlifting.โ -Mike Burgener, USA Weightlifting senior international coach โOutstanding, Accurate, and Concise! This is a must have for every weightlifting/strength and conditioning coach's library shelf.โ Bob Takano, Member USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame โEverett's book is one of the most accessible and comprehensive weightlifting sources available for the coach and athlete today. There has been extensive content added to this edition and the design is MUCH better. The paperback version comes in at 588 pages and is now the "definitive textbook" for Olympic lifting for all athletes and coaches. The lift progressions, program design, and supplemental information in this book is beyond description - it's simply outstanding and extremely detailed. I was already a huge fan of the 2nd edition, however, the 3rd edition is major upgrade and I love the overall design and flow of this book. You won't find the details of the O-lift progressions anywhere else. The Catalyst methodology is a wonderful system for learning and progressing with the Olympic lifts and the system is completely hashed out and explained in great detail in the book. This is not a book to read, it's a book to apply. What I mean is that this is a book that belongs in the gyms for continuous reference and application to the sport of Olympic lifting. If you read only one book on OL, this could be the only book you'd ever need. Greg Everett has consistently put out some of the best content and perspective on Olympic lifting and this book is a complete and comprehensive culmination of his work. With the growth of OL, this body of work is for everyone who's serious about their own training or becoming better as a OL coach. I've been reading Greg's work for years now and this book is his best (and most comprehensive) work to date. The technique descriptions and progressions are easily worth the investment alone, but the book goes much deeper into all aspects of weightlifting. There is no stone left unturned and I can't imagine what further questions would be left unanswered after reading. Wondering if you should get this book if you already have the previous edition? The answer is absolutely YES! I've already mentioned the reasons why: the book is a total re-design, a major upgrade, and a complete evolution to the previous edition. Things change, techniques improve, and new things are discovered. This book represents a much improved and enhanced version of "Olympic Weightlifting." There's a reason the book is titled "A Complete Guide" because that's exactly what it is. Highly recommended! Review: Technical, Practical, Packed with knowledge - Technical, lots of visuals, sometimes can feel verbose but necessary for understanding. As the book says, recommended for both coaches and athletes. As you can browse through the book for highlights and always can come back for technical details.

Another fanatasic book filled with great information from Greg Everett.
A wealth of information as always. The format of this edition has a much clearer flow and is presented in an easier to follow manner. There is more information all around with great written descriptions, photos and diagrams. The topics covered go above and beyond basic skills and into trouble shooting and problem solving as well as dealing with competition and even nutrition. The knowledge provided is written with detail that is useful for either a beginner or an advanced lifer or coach looking to increase their skills. This is a wealth of information at an incredible price! As much as I utilize their website and all that it contains, it is still nice to have a hard paper copy that I can highlight, make notes in and easily turn to for reference. At this point I have thoroughly browsed through the book and can say that I am looking forward to an in-depth reading, and then putting into practice, the material that it contains. A big THANK YOU to Greg Everett and Catalyst Athletics for the quality information that they provide in print and online.

Quality, useful content
I get the Catalyst Athletics newsletter and in this last one on December 14, 2018, Greg Everett asked to leave a review. He claims he creates quality, useful content. There's no doubt about it. The book itself is a handy reference for programming and learning technique. It's direct, clear writing. No fluffy BS or self-indulgence, even though the guy is a beast and would have every right to do so. This book, along with the website with its short exercise demo videos have been instrumental in helping me improve my Olympic Lifts in both weight and technique. I couldn't have done it with out either. No matter what sport you play, or even if you want to get fit, learn and do the Olympic lifts. They will do wonders for your performance and you'll get to see your body do things you never thought possible. And Catalyst Athletics' tutelage in their books and website will help you get there.

Awesome for a new lifter..
I bought this book in a silly attempt to "teach myself" how to weighlift. I was not disappointed. Greg goes over the lifts extremely well, and he has a great progression for learning them. He warns the new lifter to not read the super in depth description chapter of each lift. Now that I've been at it for a little while, I appreciate this. Those sections make a ton of sense now and definitely would not have at first. He also includes getting ready for a competition and programming. All in all a great purchase as a new lifter!

Still the best information source for American weightlifting...
While its true there is no official standard for American weightlifting, this is the best place to start. So many great coaches started with this material so you might as well do the same. While I'm sure Greg is a very intelligent man, he's not trying to prove it with unnecessary details in the text. This book is well written and easy to understand, for coaches and athletes of all levels. If you're a weightlifting coach, planning to become one, or an athlete looking to take your sport to the next level, I can't recommend this book enough.

Ignore the terrible nutrition advice, but otherwise excellent for learning the Olympic lifts
The nutrition advice is comically bad, early 2010's bro science, with the main source cited being Gary Taubes. I hope future editions are updated with recommendations based in actual science. Otherwise, I'm finding the book an invaluable resource in learning the Olympic lifts, in conjunction with the excellent video library on the Catalyst Athletics web site.

THE must own Oly WL book
Originally ordered the Second Edition, which was awesome, then found out the 3rd Edition came out a month later. So thanks to Amazon for accepting my 2nd and flipping me the 3rd. The book is a huge upgrade in terms of photos from the 2nd edition. I actually emailed Catalyst Athletics to get a breakdown of the changes and immediatley knew it was worth the exchange. The amount of knowledge and usefulness of this resource is second to none. I have read the whole book multiple times and find myself going back to it after training sessions for corrections or tips. Pairing this with the Catalyst Athletics website pretty much gives you as much up-to-date information as you can fit in your head. Highly recommend this book for any level of lifter.

The Complete guide is truly, the complete guide
This book is an all encompassing guide to the Olympic weight lifting movements and additional training movements required to excel in the sport. From start to finish it teaches you the basics of each movement, as well as why we do the movements to the advance cues and adjustments needed to move 120kG above your head in one clean efficient movement. It is not another "gym" book that will give you a 3 week get shredded guide, nor with it sugar coat the requirements and expectations of this sport. Greg will give it all to you, he is not afraid to share any information/lessons/tricks/tips/habits - Everything. No other book like this exists, certainly not of this caliber. The beauty and obsession of this sport is that you never feel complete. You never feel like you have it. This book is written by someone who loves the sport and loves to teach. If you are hesitating, stop, and buy this book.
