I haven't tried out the cleaning side yet but I like its a nice option to have in case you need to really clean dust and debri of your glass. Less than 12 inches. It is not possible to swipe the top of the car or all the way to the middle of the windows comfortably :( I went to Home Depot and purchased a very heavy duty Squeegee for $7.97, versus this item at $13.99. I believe this could be a god item, but the handle seems made of very thin aluminum and is definitely too short.
