Debbie, 1:48 scale is 1/4 inch equals one foot. The Spitfire airplane was just under 30 feet in length (29 feet and 11 inches to be exact). So a 1:48 scale model of a plane 30 feet in length is 7 1/2 inches long. I have gotten several of these models for my ten year old grandson. He seems to like them. Their not big, but I would say the right size for a kid to play with. -Glenn
