Genuine ELM237 chip: I used an Android app called "ELM327 Identifier" to test the firmware version of the ELM327 chip used in this scanner, and it turned out to be version 2.2 (which is the second to latest version, as of November 2020). This is a good thing, as most cheap OBD scanners on desertcart and Ebay have either version 1.4 (which could be genuine or fake), or version 1.5 (which is absolutely fake, as ELM Electronics never made a version 1.5 chip). I needed something that would tell me the status of regens....when active, time between, and EGT temps. It also gives me DEF info. There are many, many parameters that can be monitored, but the diesel specific data is what is most important for me to keep track of my engine health/performance. The scanner connects with just a plug in and easily pairs with a multitude of scanner apps. In my case, I chose the Car Scanner, primarily because it does allow you to view your info on the infotainment center. You are limited as to the number of screens, and the amount of items on each screen if you just use the free version. For me, that did all I needed.
