When youโre small, waiting for anything can seem to take a lifetime, especially when itโs a baby! There is so much to sort out for the new arrival โ clothes, toys and a place to sleep. A new addition to any family is exciting, but the experience can also be worrying and confusing for siblings. Coping with the new situations and emotions that arise can be very challenging. This series of four board books deals with the anticipation of waiting for the new baby, the excitement of the arrival itself, and the beginnings of the special relationship that develops between siblings. The simple conversational text and lively illustrations are carefully designed to encourage further dialogue between reader and child. Review: Great book for toddlers - So I was concerned that my 21 month old daughter would get bored with this book. We have had it for almost a week, and she loves it! The bright pictures are wonderful and since it has no words, the parent can make up their own story or point out other things. Since the story is changing each time, I think it is less boring for both the child and the parent reading it. I think it's more interactive and intersting in that sense. And yes, sometimes the character is not going to completely match each reader's situation, but I think they are general enough to be helpful. I like it that the child can look either like a boy or a girl. I also like it when the child is feeding her/himself while the mother is watching and relaxing. It is great to show how the older sibling is going to be involved and this book really captures the special time for both parents and child. GREAT BOOK, highly recommend! Our daughter makes us read it 4 or 5 times every night! Review: Preparing Little Hearts for a New Baby - When I was expecting, one of my biggest considerations was how to prepare my children for the massive transition of welcoming a new baby into our family. Waiting for Baby is a beautiful book written in the style of a childโs internal monologue and illustrated with simple, accessible artwork that meets young readers at their level. The story is driven by a young narrator reflecting on all the new and changing things happening while his mother is pregnant. It is simple and effective, gently reinforcing that curiosity is normal and that itโs okay not to know exactly what will happen. Weโve had this book for four years, and my five-year-old recently chose it for storytime againโproof that its appeal lasts even beyond the season itโs written for. I would recommend this book to any family with young children preparing to welcome a new baby.

Helped our toddler!
We love this little book! We definitely recommend to anyone who is expecting another bundle of joy! We bought this for our toddler son before his little brother arrived. We would read it every few nights, and he loved it! We really think it helped him understand about mommy having a baby. He would take it to every dr visit with us and show the doctor his " baby book". It helped him understand why mommy went to the doctor alot. It is brightly colored and has pictures that help open up conversation. It does have words on bottom of each page to help explain each picture. It covers handing down clothes to new baby, buying or getting new clothes and toys for baby, the baby moving in mommys tummy, reading baby books, getting nursery ready ( a cute paint scene), mommy going to the dr, getting an ultrasound, even mommy taking naps, as well as big sibling staying with Grandma while waiting for the new sibling! It is a very sweet and special book! We also recommend the book "My New Baby" which is part of the series.

Dialogue sucks but great book and worth buying anyway
Everyone who says the dialogue sucks is rightโฆ BUT this book is fantastic for the pictures. My two year old loves this being read to him, and I just describe whatโs going on for him. I think this book is a big part of what helped him get that thereโs a baby in my belly, he loves to touch my belly and point out the baby. Iโm also planning on bringing this book to the anatomy scan so he has it to reference. I also have been emphasizing โgetting the baby outโ at the end; like โthe baby is OUT of mommyโs belly!โ Iโm finding this book great for conversations with my two year old, highly recommend!

got her more excited and the best part of all- got her interested in getting to ...
This book is top notch for any parent who want to prepare their kid(s) for a new baby. I have a two year old daughter who I had hoped to prepare before having our newborn son. It has definitely enhanced her understanding, got her more excited and the best part of all- got her interested in getting to know her little brother. I purchased this book when I was just a few months pregnant and got my daughter to read it with me everyday. Of course she doesn't know how to read by herself yet,but because of the incredible illustrations, the toddler in the book could pass off as an older brother or sister; which helped my daughter think it was her they were talking about. After purchasing this book I had wondered if my daughter would loose interest in it after the baby was born, but it's been quite the opposite. She still takes it off the shelf to read. The information in the book has clicked for her- she's now a big sister- like the little girl in the book. She still reads it and talks about how the baby was once in my belly and is now no longer there. I love this book and the transformation it has given my daughter!

Fantastic book
This is a combined/comparison review of 4 โnew siblingโ books, for an 18-24 month old: Iโm a Big Brother by Joanna Cole โ my favorite sibling book. It shows a story of a new baby arriving at home (could work for adoption families too). It talks about the things babies likes to do (drink milk, sleep, cuddle) and the โspecialโ things the big brother gets to do (eat pizza, ice cream, walk, play with toys). The main theme of this book is that the big brother is special too (mommy and daddy love big brother, itโs fun being big, now Iโm special in a new way/by being a big brother). Waiting for Baby by Rachel Fuller and My New Baby by Rachel Fuller โ BY FAR our toddlerโs favorites. He consistently chooses these books. The book is written in a disjointed, choppy, stream of consciousness, which supposedly mimics a toddlerโs thought process. Well, it works. He loves these books, he really seems to appreciate the short, simple language, and then we talk together about whatโs happening in the illustrations. I love that My New Baby normalizes breastfeeding mothers. There is a 3rd book in the series about the evolving sibling relationship, which weโll definitely be introducing after baby arrives. I am a Big Brother by Caroline Jayne Clark โ our least favorite, but still a nice addition to the set.

The book was great but it had crayon scribbles on one page
Overall the book is cute. It was a bit simplistic. But when we got the book, one page was all scribbled on with purple crayon.

Fills in the pregnancy part of that many other "big sister/brother" books completely omit
Our absolute favorite big sibling board books are from Rachel Fuller's "New Baby" set (a total of 4 books, we currently have 2; "Waiting for Baby" and "My New Baby"), as they are better aligned with our "crunchy" parenting style, "My New Baby" includes breastfeeding and babywearing in a tasteful way that treats nursing as normal, and the mom in the pictures doesn't "whip it out", as some breastfeeding critics might say. I really appreciate that Fuller's "Waiting for Baby" incorporates going to prenatal appointments and ultrasounds with Mom, and toddler and Dad fixing up dinner while tired, heavily pregnant Mom is resting, an all too common sight at our house since I've had numerous health issues throughout my pregnancy, and require frequent rest, so Daddy being shown participating in the preparation for baby is greatly appreciated. EDIT for fall 2017. Big sister adjusted to her brother very well in July 2016. The only thing she didn't quite grasp from the get go, was that a baby doesn't start off as a fully fledged toddler playmate, but we didn't notice any behavior that could be described as sibling jealousy. We've gone from one big sibling to be to two kids and a third on the way, and we still love the now full set of all 4 books. I catch big sister and her brother reading these together, with the three year old "narrating" what's going on in the pictures, and the one year old middle child to be brings me this book to read quite frequently. It helps a lot to have a means of illustrating rather abstract concepts to the kids. Our now 15 month old is a little too young to understand everything he sees and hears, and I expect to see some sibling jealousy and confusion when we bring home a new baby in the coming couple of weeks, but we are hoping the illustrations will still help with the transition, as they helped his 24 month old sister when he was born.

An excellent book to prep for a new baby
We read this book to our son for months leading up to the second babyโs birth. I think it really helped with his transition from an only child to having a sibling. Highly recommend.
