The Lightstrip-only product is a 24v constant voltage 5 channel LED strip R,G,B,WW,CW, with a common anode (+) terminal terminating in 6 pin JST-PH 2.0mm connectors. (IIRC Pin order is +, R,G,B,CW,WW) A color is “on” when that color’s pin is connected to power supply (-). Dimming is accomplished by pulse width modulation, i.e. the fraction of time that the color’s pin is grounded. Hue PWM repetition rate is 1,000Hz IIRC. The Philips Hue control for the Lightstrip Plus is supplied with a 24v DC 20W (0.8A) power supply with a coaxial plug .5.5mm OD 2.1mm ID. The Philips control senses the current loading of the control and re-scales brightness to avoid drawing more than ~18W (0.75A) from the power supply at maximum brightness when additional LED strip extensions are added. Earlier generations of the Hue Lightstrip plus control box had a JST-PH 1.5 connector and an adapter cable to reach the strip’s JST-PH 2.0 connector. Current versions simply hard-wire the 2m cable directly to the control. The work-around for driving more LEDs is to use the Philips control to drive a 24v 5 channel LED amplifier to drive as much 24v 5 channel LED strip as desired. The Philips control isn’t loaded by the LEDs on the output of the LED amplifier. The 24v LED amplifier’s current rating and the 24v power supply that powers the amplifier should be chosen for the power consumption of the LED strips being driven when all 5 colors are at 100% on. Derate by 50% for reliable operation and cool running. At power-on the Philips control detects if the power draw will exceed the power supply's capacity and re-scales the output dimmer so that 100% brightness in the app or at the bridge is within the capability of the power supply. **Q: Attach to the back of ultra thin tv (lg oled)? will it get very hot?** A: They barely gets warm. The power supply delivers a little over 19W and the maximum delivered to LED strips is around 16W at no more than 8W/meter. Even using double this density single row RGBCCT LED strips with a 5ch LED amplifier and a separate 24V DC power supply you won’t get warmer than the TV itself does. If you used 100LED/m 5-in-1 dual row led strips that would deliver closer to 100W and you would want to put the strips on extrusions and mount the clips on standoffs.
