    The Serpent is Stupendous!

The Serpent, book 8 in Kathryn Le Veque’s De Wolfe Pack series, is absolutely stupendous! OMG, this book is so good! Penelope is a true De Wolfe warrior, and the perfect mate for Brohdi De Shera, who I love, love, love! And I love that the De Wolfe family plays a larger part in this book. It’s nice to see so many of the characters that we know and love. You have to read this wonderful book!

Not my favorite in the series

I have loved this series so far (from book 2 the “The Wolfe) and was looking forward to Penelope’s story but right from the beginning; it was an instant turn off for me with the whole serpent thing in the marshes. Utterly ridiculous! I gave the book 3 stars because William “The Wolfe”, Paris, and Kieren (the true heart of the Wolfe series) and their respective children are what hold my interest. I will continue with the series, as I’m looking very forward to the next “A Wolf amount Wolves” bringing 4th son James back so hopefully this next book will redeem the series for me for going forward. Just seems after Patrick’s story, then Scott’s and then Troy’s, which were all very good, that Edward’s story was a little lacking in my opinion, though I still enjoyed the story. But Penelope’s story just feel way short because of that ridiculous creature. On to the next with fingers crossed - reviews for the next book look like they’re the best reviews for a book in this series, so I’ll have tissues near by, as I think I will definitely need them.

"Stand By Your Man At Any Cost"

Penelope was a force to be reckoned with. She was a De Wolfe who came from a long line of powerful knights. Being a woman didn't stop her from being a knight and fighting right along side the men she loved and trusted. She believed with every breath she took in loyalty and the core values that her father and all of his knights and soldiers believed in. When her father, The Wolfe with a perfect reputation, and a legacy of powerful ancestors behind him, came to her with a life changing request; she stayed true to what she believed in; being a knight along side the men she had idolized all her life, was her life.King Edward had chosen her to settle the long time feud the English had with Wales. He wanted her to marry an ancestral Welsh King who crushed them in war after war. He was Bhrodi de Shera, The Serpent. Penelope had no interest in getting married. In fact she was happy to live her life fighting and being a knight. She wasn't fit to be a wife and she knew nothing about taking care of a keep. She did know about swords, armor, and how to train horses. She could fight as well as any man since she had been trained by her father, The Wolf. She refused to be used as a pawn in King Edwards scheme to get rich and conquer another country for his greed and gains. Her father didn't want to ask her to do this either but he didn't want to see any more of his kids die at the hands of the Serpent. She lost one brother and she had to admit she didn't want to lose another. It was her duty. A woman didn't have a say in who they married especially when the king chose for you. After throwing many temper tantrums, and putting her dad through much hard ache she had to concede and do as she was commanded. It was actually a great marriage and Bhrodi came with as many accolades and more than her father. Plus the marriage would finally bring a peace to England and Wales. Still angry with the choice that was made for her she and her family were headed to Wales where she would meet her new husband and see her new home. This story was filled with twist and turns and I practically bit my nails off at every turn. Well I would have if I chewed my nails. I loved Penelope's strength and that she backed down to no one, not even the king. I spent a lot of time trying to predict one out come after another but those many twist and turns threw me off every time. The suspense many times drove me crazy and caused me to skip ahead. Although I read it in different sections it definitely didn't take away from the excitement. This is one book in the series I would definitely read again. I liked Penelope's story and point of view. Bhrodi and Penelope were the perfect match and I liked that Kathry told the store from both sides. Other books in the series it's been the man's story but this time it was both Bhrodi and Penelope speaking because it was both their lives being controlled by Edward. Their chemistry was so well matched up and it was nice seeing them get to know each other. The time they took to please each other and their beliefs as both being a knight butted at times but then they came together because they really understood each other. Serpent I would have to say was one of my favorite books so far in The De Wolfe Series.
