Random Orbit Sander, Variable Speed, 5-Inch (DWE6423), Power Source Corded Electric

I simply can’t bring myself to drop $500+ on a sander. The DeWalt random orbital sander is a great quality alternative. Sanders wear out and at less than $100, the DeWalt’s 5” sander is good enough for the kind and frequency of sanding I do for my woodworking hobby. The sander does tend to want to chatter and wander around the material at lower speeds, but if you increase the speed and keep it flat on the material -WITHOUT PRESSING DOWN TOO HARD - it works just fine. Dust collection with a hose and extractor works well, but more than anything else, using the highest quality sandpaper is essential for an optimal outcome. It might take a little longer than the more expensive options, but I can buy 5 DeWalts for the price of one the “fancier” models, or use the saved money to buy more tools!

This sander is AMAZING! I have never used an orbital sander, maybe they are all great. Pros - I sanded for over 4 hours, and barely felt it in my hand / wrist. The sanding pads Velcro so very easy to replace. The suction is very good, which easily keeps the sawdust out from between your sanding pad and work piece. This not only speeds up the sanding a lot, but it makes your sanding pads last a lot longer as they are not being gummed up with sawdust. The grip is soft rubber, and fits (my) hand very well making it comfortable to use for long periods. The dust exhaust appears to be designed to fit a variety of shop vacs (just not mine, which is I guess extra large) Cons - The dust bag it comes with is kinda pathetic. The first one I got exploded on installation. The 3 ball bearings flew off across the room. I was being pretty gentle with it, so not sure what happened there. I ordered a replacement and the new attaches just fine. The major con is the bag itself. The dust quickly coats the inside of the bag then the airflow stops. The vacuum can't suck any more and the dust stays on the work piece. Since my vacuum wouldn't fit, I just took my project outside onto some sawhorses, removed the dust bag, and let the dust blow away into the wind. Still don't count on the dust bag being an effective solution for more than very brief sanding jobs. Solution - well for me at least. I have a 3d printer so I will print out an adapter that will not only latch onto the sander just like the bag does, but also fit my vacuum.

Great sander with good options, I have found that it is not as powerful as my Dewalt D26451 sander. It is nice that you can change the speed, but this is not a powerhouse.

This DEWALT random orbit sander has been a great addition to my tool collection. Despite its compact size, it works wonders. I used it to remove overspray on my basement stairs, and it handled the job smoothly and efficiently with excellent control. The variable speed is a big plus, allowing you to adjust based on the task, and the sander feels solid and well balanced in hand. One important warning: the dust travels farther than you expect, especially in small or enclosed spaces. Be sure to close doors and cover nearby furniture before you start—I learned that the hard way. Overall, this is a reliable, powerful sander that delivers professional results. Just prep your space properly, and it will not disappoint. Great buy for the money. Note: last picture is the dust the covered the basement floor from the stairs.

Ought this to sand my roof top tent to repair the laminate coating. This did a great job, plenty of power. Next up sanding a retaining wall. I think it will do the job perfectly.
