How much does this weigh? Is it ok for backpacking (tied to the pack)?

This is exactly the tent you want for backpacking. It weighs just at 5# and is 18" long and 61/2" in diameter. It's small enough that I pack it inside my 75 liter Alps backpack but it would certainly strap to the outside if you wanted to. This is a GREAT backpacking tent, especially for the money. Don't hesitate to buy one.

Is this a 4 season tent?

I have done quite a bit of winter camping and you don't want to use this tent for winter. The problem with any tent with ventilation mesh is that the snow can fill it when you are setting it, also can come up under the rain fly and fill the tent, wet sleeping bags. All 4 season tents should have a solid fabric body, I have learned the hard way, while tarp camping in winter I had snow everywhere and the only thing that saved me was a waterproof bivwac sac (an Adventure Medical Thermo-Lite Bivy, a great product!!). In winter when things go wrong it can go very wrong quickly, you want a snow proof shelter.

A twofer: 1. how is it in rain? Im going to be using it in the tropics, see. 2. What are the dimensions of the floor?

Not sure about dimensions. Check manufacturer website. I used this tent on one ten day trip to utah last fall. It was primarily dry like a desert. There were two nights where it was gusty with thunderstorms. We stayed perfectly dry.

What is the R Value of this tent?

Not sure, but this isn't a great winter time tent. The floor of the tent sticks out farther than the upper zipper of the rain fly. In the summer time this is great because you can stand in the tent floor while your body is outside the rain fly. In wet weather (even morning dew) this means that when the rain fly is unzipped, it will drip directly into the tent floor. So long story short, don't buy this tent for wet weather.
