Review: Building on the Basics - This series of homeschool workbooks is a great tool, especially for the child who is a quick and independent learner. Review: Great Tool for Homeschool Spelling! - Are you looking for a quick and dirty spelling workbook for kids? This is it. I bought this for my 11 year old who seriously struggles with spelling. This is her first year of homeschool, and unfortunately her prior public school did not focus on spelling, so it is back to the drawing board. I chose the Grade 3 workbook. After reading reviews, it seems that there are a lot of kiddos her age struggling with spelling too. According to other reviewers, this is best for a 5th grade level. Well, I bet its great for most 3rd graders, who have a good grasp on spelling in general, but I find Grade 3/Level 3 best for my 6th grade daughter. I can't make assumptions for all 3rd graders. My son is in 3rd grade and we use the Spelling for Minecrafters books (grades 3 and 4) for him. Pros: - Daily spelling practice - Uses same or similar types of words throughout the week - Introduces children to prefixes and suffixes - Traditional, familiar format - great for public school kids as well as those transitioning from public school - Good for independent work that parents can review later, if needed Cons: - Some of the instructions can be unclear to students; ensure that your student comprehends the instructions. - Traditional format - depending your method of homeschooling, this traditional (similar to public school worksheet) may not be best for your student. For example, Charlotte Mason folks tend to prefer more natural learning through play. Classical folks may prefer copywork and memorization. We are eclectic homeschoolers, so we are flexible in our methods as long as our children are enjoying what they are learning.

Great seller. Great resource.
I missed the fact that it was written in within the description. I reached out to the seller who promoted went above and beyond to resolve. Great seller. The book itself is a great resource, just need to make sure I understand and read descriptions better when buying used!

Grade 3 book is too hard for 3rd graders. Better for 5th graders.
I used this 3rd grade book with my 5th grade homeschooler after reading reviews that the vocabulary was too hard. People were right! I used to be a 5th grade public school teacher in both Illinois and Florida and I agree that Grade 3 is more suited for 5th grade children. Even my 7th grade child is asking me what some of these words mean, and this kid has an extensive vocabulary. So, buy the 3rd grade book for 5th grade students. The book itself is great!!! I give it to them for something to work on independently while I'm working with their sibling. They do it by themselves and they don't ask me a ton of questions about directions because the directions are clear and they easily understand what to do. The words are great and I can see why they chose these specific spelling patterns. Well done!

Great supplement to our language arts
Using it as an additional supplement to my granddaughter’s language arts. I needed something that offered additional task that her main curriculum didn’t include. Being 3rd grade, I want to ensure there was practice using abc order, dictionary usage, antonyms, synonyms, along with other principles. It’s one short page a day for 5 days. She finds it reasonably quick yet she’s learning quite a bit. Will continue using for higher grade levels as available for the grade. Completely recommend.
