desertcart.com: Rumble Jar - Next-Gen Cold Brew Coffee Maker for Mason Jars - 200 Micron Filter Is Ideal for Coarse Grounds & Stronger Coffee - Standalone Filter (no Mason Jar included) : Home & Kitchen

Review: Perfect Cold Brewer - Love this thing so much. I can make coffee so much quicker now and with less thought. I previously used the OXO cold brew maker and was finding after about a year that it wouldn't drain well, even using a coarse grind. Also, the plastic container holding the brew had gotten scratched pretty good on the bottom where I would scrape it to force it to drain. While the plastic was noted to be BPA-free, it still weirded me out what else could be leaching into my coffee from those scratches. It was just so frustrating. The Rumble Jar is consistent and there's no fuss about draining anymore. Being stainless steel, there's no worry about it leaching any chemicals, unlike the scratches plastic. Plus, since it fits in a mason jar, I can brew it in my fridge now. The OXO brewer was too large for my fridge, so I would brew on the countertop, making my first couple cups warm, which I didn't like. Now it's cold from the first cup using the RJ. Really easy to clean. I just dump the used grinds into my compost bucket and wash the rest out. It would be even easier to clean if the bottom was detachable, though. You can't really make concentrate with it like I could with the OXO since the water needs to cover the column. So, I brew it with grinds up to the second notch and don't dilute it. Filled with water to the top of the 64oz mason jar to brew, I get about 49-50oz of net coffee. It's the perfect amount for 3 days for me, personally. I wish the silicone lid fit on the top of it a little snugger. I have noticed once or twice that the lid had just about come off while brewing when I went to drain it. It has just a small lip that fits over the top. Be gentle with your inversions and fill the mason jar up to the very top with water to prevent that. I can make the coffee and drain it with this, both quickly and consistently. Quick and easy cleanup. Wish I had searched for something like this sooner.
Review: some of the best coffee I've ever made - First thing first - I love coffee, but specifically I love iced coffee. Making iced drinks at home was challenging/a hassle because i don't want to invest in a big, bulky coffee maker with iced functions, and coffee pods. I feel they are horrible for the environment and are so wasteful of plastic (like the bottles of cold brew sold at the grocery store, as well). Because of my desire to make the best coffee with the least amount of waste, all of the coffee accoutrement I've invested in is metal, portable, reusable, and durable, like my bialetti moka pot percolator, and a hand coffee grinder for fresh ground beans. I decided on investing in the rumble jar too, to have unlimited access to iced coffee without a big financial investment or environmental impact. Let me say - the investment was SO worth the $20. I will bring this with me now wherever I go, along with my percolator. Not only is it an awesomely reusable option, it's durable, VERY easy to clean, and gave me the best cup of iced coffee I've had in a long time. It really feels like I have a full barista set up in my house with none of the equipment. At night, I grind fresh beans, dump them in the rumble jar/mason jar combo, agitate, and let it sit. (The agitation is really cool to see, also!!) It's such a low effort for high output of a large amount of excellent coffee. One mason jar for me is good for two days of coffee. It's strong, tastes amazing, and is so simple. From my perspective, it will be worth the purchase after 3 uses because I will have saved 3 plastic cold brew bottles from the grocery store. I am eager to see how well the metal will hold up, but the metal looks so much more durable than some of the dupes I've seen on desertcart or even Aldi. If you are searching for a reusable and SIMPLE way to make iced coffee all summer, here is your new thing!!! If you are searching for a coffee-making option for traveling/camping/eco friendly-ness, INVEST here.

## Features

- A BETTER FILTER THAT MAKES STRONGER COLD BREW COFFEE: Cold brew experts designed this filter to make professional-quality cold brew in a Mason jar. Our 18/8 stainless steel filter features 200 micron holes, the ideal size for allowing water to circulate and optimal extraction to occur with coarse-ground coffee. It’s a radical improvement to those first-generation brewers with fine mesh screen filters, which are more suited to brewing hot coffee with finer grounds. You’ll taste the difference.
- KEEPS COFFEE FRESHER THAN THE COMPETITION: Oxidation is the enemy of fresh coffee, so the key is to keep air out. Unlike traditional sit-on-top mesh filters, our next-generation filter rests fully inside the Mason jar, allowing the Mason jar’s lid to maintain its famous airtight seal. This keeps your cold brew fresher. The intact seal also means the jar stays leakproof, so it's truly portable and means an end to coffee leaking coffee all over your hands, kitchen and clothes.
- NOVEL DESIGN BELOVED BY ITS KICKSTARTER BACKERS: The patent-pending capped-filter design features an ultra-sturdy, dent-resistant 18/8 stainless steel filter, with your choice of color for the food-grade silicone cap. The cap keeps grounds sealed inside the filter, while also working as a shock absorber that prevents rattling and protects the filter. Now you can say goodbye to those flimsy mesh filters that can produce weaker cold brew and easily fray, rip and get clogged up.
- BREWING PROCESS IS SIMPLER THAN EVER: Professional-quality cold brew takes less than a minute to prepare at home. After adding coffee grounds and water, just tighten the lid and rotate the jar horizontally/sideways 2 or 3 times. This "rumble" step activates the brewing process. Then let it sit overnight and your cold brew will be ready in the morning, tasting like a barista made it. Cleanup is even faster than the prep.
- COMPATIBLE WITH WIDE-MOUTH 32OZ MASON JARS (NOT INCLUDED): Product includes a stainless steel filter with food-grade silicone cap and a 100% cotton filter-bag that can be used as an optional second stage of filtration if you brew with fine grounds (remember: coarse grounds are best for cold brew). Compatible with wide-mouth Mason jars only (i.e. not regular mouth jars). The stated 1-quart capacity represents the volume of the Mason jar, not the volume of the filter. BPA free. Dishwasher safe.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: will it work for ice tea?**
A: Although designed for coffee, we've heard from many tea drinkers that the filter's hole size (200 microns) does a good job capturing some of the "dust" that other tea-dedicated filters sometimes leave behind due to having a larger hole size. Ultimately, it will all depend on the fineness of the specific tea particles you're brewing, since different teas are pretty wide-ranging in terms of their particle size, but yes, it's definitely a solution for brewing iced tea or sun tea.

**Q: About how much coffee (measured) is needed to make the strongest brew? TY!**
A: The filter for the 64oz Mason jar can hold a maximum of about 2.3 cups (or 7 ounces) of grounds. After accounting for displacement from the grounds as well as the filter itself, you'd be able to add about 50 ounces of water to the jar, which would achieve a water-coffee ratio of around 7:1.

**Q: When will there be a 1 gallon or 4 liter version?**
A: We don't have a 1-gallon version currently, but we've had a number of folks asking for it so hopefully it's something we'll be offering in the future.

**Q: Will the seal/lid keep grounds in the filter in a large pitcher?**
A: It might, but the beauty of using a large mason jar is that it “seals” the coffee filter and locks it in place so that it can’t move. You can then “rumble” the jar to get the water flowing through the filter. My fear would be that the filter lid would pop off, spilling the contents in the pitcher.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quick clean-up; use with pitchers too
*by M***Y on December 28, 2024*

This filter is designed for use with a mason jar, but I ordered it hoping to use it with a larger pitcher. It works! My pitcher’s neck is a little wider than a mason jar’s, so I need to be careful with the filter lid to make sure it doesn’t slip off the filter (I think the seal could be a little tighter), but it’s still very easy to use. Way less mess than just mixing the grounds and water together and filtering later. My partner thinks there’s a slight taste difference because the grounds don’t come into as much contact with the water when using the filter, but I can’t notice a difference, and did I mention the quick clean-up?! The filter is also great for iced tea. I haven’t tried this yet, but you could use it for infusing spirits, too (you’d still want to use something with a finer mesh, like cheesecloth, to get all the stray bits).
