Querkles: Icons

This coloring book is so much fun! Starting to color in the spaces (mostly circles of varying sizes), which are indicated by numbers 1 through 5 and seeing a face emerge is part of what makes it so fun. You can either use five varying shades of one color, or five different colors, as long as you have enough difference between light and dark. It's the light and dark contrast that help the faces come to life. This book contains 21 pictures to color, which includes one large 19"x14" poster, each of which is an "icon" such as Marilyn Monroe, Abraham Lincoln, Elvis Presley, etc. For most of the pictures, you won't be able to tell who it is when you first start coloring. You will be well into the coloring process before you can guess who it is. Each picture takes quite a long time to color, as there are a lot of spaces to fill in. But this book is different from most adult coloring books, and different from most color-by-number coloring books, too. This is a unique experience and I feel like I am creating a masterpiece each time I color one of these gorgeous pictures. I recommend this highly and plan to buy the other versions, including Animals, Masterpieces and Cats. The paper these pictures are printed on is heavier and is good quality. The book is glue-bound and the pages are perforated on the side so you can take them out easily if you would like to either work on them outside of the book or frame them once you complete them.

I have all 4 of the Querkles books the animal one is the easiest one to start with. When you first look at the pages all you see are a page full of crazy circles in different sizes all over the place. Here's where your Crayola pencils come in real handy since there is no shading or anything like that to worry about just color in the circles as instructed in the beginning of the book and you will be amazed at the end result. Very easy yet challenging. Try one or all you won't be sorry.

This is so fun and addictive. The quality of the paper is good for paint markers too.

This is such a unique coloring book idea. I can't wait to start on these pages. I have a lot of adult coloring books but this is so different from anything I've tried before. I had a few friends over visiting when this arrived in the mail, and two of them ordered their own copy after seeing me unbox mine. EDIT: This has turned out to be one of my all-time favorite coloring books. I've had it for over a year now, and I can say this is the first coloring book that I've completely finished. I hope more in this series are published! I'd love to see a dog book or a second volume of Icons. The pages are thick enough to withstand alcohol markers, but there is some bleedthrough so put a sheet between pages just in case. There are so many ways to color the images, and I love trying out different methods like crosshatch, dots, and monochrome.

Dont ruin it for yourselves and look at the index of names. Each page is filled with circles and require you to choose 4 -5 colors in differnt grades of shade, can be all one color, or you can throw in an accent color, your choice. as you color in each circle an image starts to appear, in this case a famous person, other books include animals and locations too, very fun book, good stress reliever as well.

I love coloring books, and Querkles are my absolute favorite. I feel like a master drawer with the finished product. I can't recommend these books highly enough, and wish I could get more of these.

Love All the Querkles. The perfect coloring book for a puzzle lover like myself. These are so satisfying, I love how these modern, bold pieces of geometric art emerge from a page of blank circles. I also love the simplicity of picking just 5 colors-- that structure is an endlessly intriguing boundary for me to work from as I try to come up with JUST the right 5 colors. For this book I chose colors to match the person and I LOVE how they turned out. Wish there were more! I am waiting to see him come out with famous scientists, or great architecture, or iconic landscapes....I will buy any and all of what he comes up with.

I turned my office into a kindergarten classroom when i bought these books. I had to buy every book as we went thru the first one in about a week. I never anticipated that I'd have 7 of my co-workers completely enthralled in art. Guys and girls alike love this. They take a while to complete which makes it well worth the money. I suggest investing in some dual-ended markers. One side a fine line, the other a flexible "watercolor" type brush. Makes its easier to get thru the bigger sections, but not stray out of the lines on the super small sections. You will not be disappointed!

Just fabulous! So many colour and effect possibilities! I honestly didn’t think I would enjoy this as much as art books which allow more opportunities to create your own masterpieces through shading, colours, etc., however these designs are so beautiful, and your imagination can still shine through in the textures, colours and shading styles you use. I have bought the others in the series as well and can’t wait to get at them! The only caution is for those with any vision issues—you will definitely need your glasses and good lighting for these as some of the circles can be teeny.

Best adult colouring book available on the market! It is simple enough for an older child to do but you can make it really challenging as an adult by trying different techniques like cross-hatching, paint or stippling.
